Chef James is an award winning Chef. He started his culinary career as a dish washer at Highlands Bar and Grill. He worked his way to the Sous Chef of Highlands and eventually the Sous Chef of Bottegas as well. 2 of the finest restaurants in Alabama. Under the leadership of his mentor Frank Stitt, Chef James has cooked for the James Beard Awards in NYC as well as the Inn at Little Washington in Alexandria, Virginia. He has cooked alongside the greats such as Wolf Gang Puck, Chris Hasting and Dean Fearing!
Chef James has been featured on fox 6, Nbc 13 and a regular on Abc 33/40. He was voted Hottest Young upcoming Chef and featured in Birmingham magazine and Birmingham Times! Chef James is one of the greats.

This place is the real deal! We dined in, and the service was fantastic. We had the Sunday Special which was chicken wings, pan fried potato cubes, braised cabbage, and black-eyed peas mixed with okra, all of which were absolutely exquisite. One bite of the food, and it became very clear that these cooks are true professionals with great attention to detail. The chicken was perfectly crisp and seasoned on the outside yet piping hot and tender on the inside. Even our extremely picky toddler enjoyed the food (yes, it was THAT good). And their old-fashioned sweet lemon tea was to die for. It’s a short drive for us, so we will probably be regulars here in no time. Can’t wait to go back. FYI, their menu is cyclical (i.e. winter menu, spring menu, summer menu, and fall menu). And then I believe their Sunday menu changes on a weekly basis.

I recently visited Refined to Go an all I can say is that it was a truly amazing experience. The food was absolutely delicious . All the food was good, but the dessert was heavenly. It really melted in my mouth! The service was also top-notch, with friendly staff that made us feel right at home. Highly recommend Regined to Go to anyone looking for a great meal! Refined to go is a great place to eat! We most definitely eat here again real soon.

First time I’ve ever been here and was warmly greeted by the who I assume is the owner and head chef. He took our order and he came back to check on us several times. Food was excellent definitely the best in Shelby county. The wife and I will be returning.

When I tell you that this is the best food that I have had anywhere in Shelby County, I mean it. This food is so good. I had the fish tacos and my husband ordered the blackened chicken alfredo. We split the fried green tomato salad and a creme brulee for dessert.

Great food and great service. My husband and I wanted take out food, not fast food, but also didn’t want to drive to birmingham to get it. I called right at opening on a Saturday night and it was ready within 30 mins. Cooked fresh and the taste was phenomenal! I had the blackened salmon and my husband had the blue cheese burger (he chowed it down before I could get a pic). Support Chef James, he’s a great cook and we are lucky to have him in Helena!

Excellent lunch today and we feel lucky to have found a gem. Blackened salmon on a bed of spinach and mashed potatoes with a light crawfish sauce cooked perfectly. Fried green tomato caprese was divine. Enjoyed talking food with James-soul food Sunday will be something to look forward to!
