The food isn’t bad or anything, just really wasn’t anything special. We ordered a rice bowl, pita pocket, and a gyro from there. The rice bowl was the best out of all 3. The gyro was just soaked in so much oil it was almost unedible, the pita pocket was pretty good just a bit dry, and most of it was just filled with lettuce just the very top had toppings. King Davids is the winner, I wouldn’t eat from here again just because a couple of stores down is King Davids n it’s the same food except more authentic and way better.

The seasonings!! Omg the steak was so tender and delicious. The picture is a steak pita pocket combo. It was amazing!! We are a family of four and they were busy, but still brought the food to our table so we didn’t have to carry it all.

Very excited to try a new Mediterranean place. Lots of veggies that I wasn’t expecting. Ordered the gyro and chx shawarma platter. Little to no grease, tastes very clean. Healthier than other Mediterranean options and very clean environment with nice scandi ambiance. Could accommodate a big party. Staff took good care of us- asked us if we wanted silverware etc in the to go bag, we got 2 gift cards so we can share the great experience

The first question I would ask is why would a Mediterranean restaurant chain headquartered in Buffalo choose this Fairmount location to expand their operations. Don’t they have a marketing team that does an analysis of whether or not a new site is a good location for their brand? The problem here is that three doors to the east on the same side of the street is a outstanding locally-owned Mediterranean restaurant, King David’s. They’ve been serving the Syracuse community since 1975. Also, a few miles west in Camillus is another Mediterranean restaurant, also locally-owned, called Kiki’s. Their menu is more limited than King David’s, but they serve excellent gyros and the best stuffed grape leaves I’ve found in Syracuse. With this competition, it’s a mystery why Rachel’s management chose this location. I visited Rachel’s on their opening day. I walked up to the counter and took only about one minute to decide what I wanted for lunch because I had previewed the menu online. I then waited 3-4 minutes see if any of the employees behind the counter would notice that I was ready to order. When no one glanced my way, I called out to the nearest person and asked if they could take my order. I was surprised that the employees weren’t more attentive towards customers, especially on their opening day. Concerning the food, let me start with a positive comment. I enjoyed their steak gyro. The vegetables were fresh and tasty, but for a sandwich that cost $12, I was surprised to find so few bites of steak. The same sandwich at King David’s is $3 less and contains about 70% sliced steak. Also, I would recommend the staff visit Kiki’s to find out how a gyro should be wrapped so it doesn’t fall apart while you’re eating it. As I ate my sandwich and pieces fell out onto my plate, I had to eat them with my fingers because the self-serve unwrapped plastic forks held in a cup had the tines facing up where anyone reaching for one would be forced to touch several others resulting in an unsanitary situation. Concerning the menu, it is very limited. You get a few pieces of steak, lamb, or chicken with lettuce and other vegetables and you can have that over rice, stuffed in a piece of pita bread, or wrapped in a piece pita bread. That’s it. They do not have platters. You can order a sandwich but the only sides available at an extra charge are fries, rice, and extra sauces. King David’s offers sandwich platters served on a large divided plate with a small salad, a falafel, a pickle, and a portion of either hummus or babaganoush, plus an extra piece of pita bread for about the same price as a one of Rachel’s sandwiches. Compared to King David’s diverse and affordable menu, Rachel’s is an expensive Mediterranean version of a Taco Bell. And, that comparison may be doing a disservice to Taco Bell.

I stopped in today they were having a soft opening the restaurant was very clean and the customer service was impeccable. I ordered the traditional Greek salad combo and it came with a warm pita bread and a side of fries and a soda. The portion size was enough for two servings. The chicken was seasoned nicely and was tender the romaine had a. Nice crunch and was fresh. The sautéed peppers and onions were a bonus treat.

This place looked really nice and we love Mediterranean food so this was a possible choice. The food was bad! Falafels dint have any flavor. My falafel pita pockets was filled with oil dripping down every single bite I was eating. Mediterranean is supposed to be one of the healthiest cuisines. Rachel’s has definitely made it the most unhealthy option to eat. I wouldn’t visit this place ever again.

Two stars is generous. If this was an established resturant it would be a one.
