Last night we went to have dinner with family at Q39 in Overland Park. It was my first time here and let me tell you it did not disappoint! The food and service were EXCEPTIONAL! Our waiter, Patrick B, made us feel welcomed from the start and gave us a little history of the restaurant, as it was our first time. He then recommended some of their popular starters and we chose the burnt ends and best wings. Both were delicious but the burnt ends were my favorite! They came with a side of bbq sauce, however, it was not needed as they were full of flavor and just melted in your mouth! For my main dish I chose the Judge’s Plate and chose ribs, pulled pork, and brisket for the meats. For sides, I chose the baked beans and potato salad. This was enough for my husband and I to share. We also had their Mac & Cheese. Everything was so flavorful and the quality of the meats was top notch. Visiting from LA, so I’m happy we were able to have some great BBQ.

I’ll give it five stars….because of the overall experience. Asked locals where we needed to eat….they said this place. The vibe was cool, loved the trophies and tables, etc. When we walked in, the host, or maybe a manager, was kinda rude when we said we didn’t have reservations. He rolled his eyes like we were a huge inconvenience. Small guy, older, whatever. We had two servers, one was training…but they both were great. Offering their suggestions for food and drink. The food…it was good, nothing wrong with it. But we were told everything on the menu had won some kind of award. It wasn’t, like slap your grandma, good. But it was good and tasty. Especially the apple slaw, and the ribs. Those two things stood out! I would go back, especially if the host/manager guy learns how to be nicer to the patrons that come in and literally pay his salary….sorry hate to be that guy, but as a former restaurant manager…this guy should be in the back of the house somewhere. Hopefully he was just having a bad night.

Pretty average, we were expecting better. Staff was uninterested in being at work. Honestly, everyone we encountered seemed like they couldn’t wait to go home (and they just opened). The BBQ wasn’t memorable either, especially compared to other notorious spots in KC. The atmosphere was fine. There might be some menu items that are great for locals, but it’s not a meaningful choice for folks from out of town — at least not compared to Jack Stacks or Joe’s. We tried 4 KC BBQ spots in 4 days, and Q39 did not make the top 3.

I was in Lenexa for job training and just about a every person I asked said try Q39 if you chose one place in the area to remember greater KC area by food wise. Lofty expectations when a majority agree like that. But I absolutely concur after going.

Stopped in for some BBQ after a day around town. Our experience was awesome. We didn’t feel like waiting for a table so we ate at the bar. The bartender recommended the brisket plate. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It also came with burnt ends. These were equally delicious and tender. My son had the mac and q with pulled chicken. The combination of cheese and bbq sauce was perfect. My husband opted for the PBLT. He thought it would be regular bacon but it was pork belly bacon. Still delicious, just unexpected. Overall a great experience. Definitely recommend.

Ordered one evening about an hour from close. Our daughter wanted something else but by the time we arrived to that place they refused to take the order. We contacted Q39 to add something on in a pinch and they were very accommodating. When we arrived the order was ready as promised with our last minute add-on. Food was fresh, hot and delicious!!! The staff was very pleasant and efficient. Their service, quality and value is impeccable. I can totally see why they’re one of the top barbecue spots in town. I highly recommend trying them and if you’re an established customer keep frequenting and supporting this Kansas City gem. Great job and please keep up the excellent work you’re doing Q39!!!!

First time in KC so I asked around about where to find the best BBQ and Q39 was a consistent top pick. We had a judges plate with Chicken, Brisket, and ribs plus a Mac & Cheese with Pork and onion strings. Everything was nesr perfection! Our server was very attentive and friendly and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommend!

The wings and Mac and cheese are always my favorite, but the pork belly lettuce and tomato sandwich is pretty dang tasty as well. Can never go wrong with the ribs or classic sandwich. Love when it’s a nice day out and they can have the garage doors open, highly recommend this place

After being seated, we waited 25 minutes for someone to ask what we wanted to drink. After that our waitress was great. Food was outstanding brisket was excellent. Overall a great experience. Would have been 5 stars if we didn’t get missed after being seated.
