Ordered the Breakfast Burrito with bacon. Had it smothered in green chile sauce for $2 more. The sauce is what made this plate. The one suggestion I have is either get smaller tortillas or actually fill them up. For the $10 burrito there was maybe one egg, a handful of semi cooked potato chunks, a spoon full of green chilies, and one slice of bacon. There was no cheese in the burrito, but there was some sprinkled on top of the sauce. I do like my cheese melted and it was still cold. My wife had the same burrito but with red chile, an average sauce, not worth the $2 extra. All this to say, I will come back and try more items but will always make sure to get some green chile sauce! (I had already cut mine up in the pictures)

Highly recommend stopping here for lunch! The service was outstanding and we couldn’t get enough of their fresh iced tea, homemade salsa, green chile smothered fries, and enchiladas with chile sauce! Looking forward to dining here again on our next visit to New Mexico.

This place is a great stop if you’re traveling through Cimarron. Simple New Mexican and American fare. Nothing great, nothing bad — just a good local restaurant. The burgers are above average — good chunk of beef probably because around here there are too many cattlemen to be able to skimp. At noon on a Friday, every table in the main dining room was full. Prices are more than reasonable — about half of what you’d pay at the St James. Restaurant hours are a bit erratic depending on the day of the week, so double check before assuming they’ll be open. Plenty of parking for bikes and trucks. Recommended for a quick bite at a good price.

Kit Carson restaurant is my favorite dine in restaurant in Cimarron! I worked on Philmont staff and always enjoyed getting a nice breakfast to start my days in town. Staff and incredibly friendly and are fun to talk with. Can’t wait to visit again

This place had great food, great staff/service! The cook came out to make sure we enjoyed it! Our waitress was amazing. Recommend the stop and don’t let anything about the building deceive you. Very clean and again great staff!!

Stopped by on the way from CO to Las Vegas, NM. Read about the cinnamon rolls and they DID NOT disappoint. Icing to die for. And the green chili burrito wasn’t too bad either. Will go back.

Very comfortable! Service and cooks are the best! The food we have eaten there is always very yasty and filling. Love Papa Thom’s and it is a nice ride from Springer to Cimarron!

The food was great, the gravy was a little to thin more like gravy flavored milk,we was the first one to be seated in the back room and was the last one to get our food out of three or four that came in after us. They seemed to be a little short handed.

Excellent breakfast. Stopped in on our way out of red River and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was great, portions are large, and service was the best I’ve had in a while. The place is very clean, and the people very friendly! Added to a list of places I’ll be stopping at every time now. Definitely recommend! Btw, I got the Kit Carson breakfast and it was huge.
