For twenty years, we have lived and traveled the world. We are often surprised and inspired by the food we have eaten along the way. From the first apple tarts in France, the Pecorino cheese in Tuscany, Weiss Wurst in Germany, Espada (scabbard fish) on the island of Madeira, to Hong Kong, Thailand and China, we have learned new flavors and techniques to add to the outstanding food of the American South. — At Plates, we hope that you will enjoy some of our favorite international dishes combined with our regional southern flavors. Join us on a culinary journey that is globally inspired and locally produced.

The food in one word would have to be described as *FRESH*. My husband’s Old Fashioned was incredibly smooth; almost too easy to drink.

I’ve been here three times and had great food with great service every time . Their take on shrimp and grits might be the best I’ve had. Elevated from its humble origins to create more complex flavors without being busy. On my second visit I had the breakfast burrito. And I’m not going to say they elevated the breakfast burrito 🙂 I will say it was a collection of simple ingredients that were cooked near perfection. Fluffy eggs with a bit of chorizo and veg on a thin flour tortilla that was so fresh I had to ask if they made it in house (they don’t). Most recently I came in for dinner. I had the catfish and my wife had the chicken pot pie. The catfish was superb. Cooked perfectly served beautifully on a bed of veg and broth all seasoned on the light side of perfect. The pot pie filling was delicious. I prefer a standard pie crust over a puff pastry topper but it was still a good dish. And the sticky toffee pudding is the comeback dish, mmmmmmm.

I wanted to share our amazing experience with Plates even though it may be unique. We booked Plates for our wedding reception and from start to finish we are so happy with how everything went. Justin, the owner was involved in the process and along with Chef David they helped curate the most amazing brunch for dinner menu which all of our guests raved about. Their team was extremely attentive and executed perfectly. Whether you are looking for somewhere to go for a meal or to host a private event, Plates will make it happen and I would recommend them to anyone. Such an incredible group of people who are passionate about what they do and the service they give!

Plates is simply outstanding. This farm-to-table, chef-run spot is unpretentious and has a real seasonal menu. The charcuterie board, seared monkfish, fresh basil fettuccine and panna cotta were all to die for. Great cocktails and excellent wine pairings. The bartenders also were awesome. This has to be one of Raleigh’s best kept secrets.

We had high hopes for this spot based on reviews. I’m not sure if they were short staffed. It took almost 10 minutes for our waiter to come over and introduce himself after we arrived and were seated. Then another 30 minutes after that to get drinks from the bar. They did apologize and say the bar was backed up.The food was ok. Charcuterie board was the standout. We enjoyed being told about the different meats cheeses etc and their origin. We also had the Steak Frites and Scallops. The frites were tough and chewy. The scallops were decent but the grits that came with them were very good. The part that would be why we wouldn’t return at least during the summer is it was so HOT. We made reservations inside specifically to avoid the oppressive heat outdoors. We were all sweating during our entire meal. I know this can’t be helped with the outdoor seating being accessed in the front of the restaurant and staff constantly opening the doors but I would absolutely consider installing fans inside to at least keep the air moving.

Outstanding breakfast! I had the French toast and it was not your average french toast! It was delicious, flavorful, and had some apple sauce or compote with it – I never had it like that before! Yum! Fresh fruit and coffee made it even better! Great service – thank you 🙂

Big shoutout to the staff for being so attentive and caring. We were told the food was farm to table so I had high expectations about how my food would taste and I was not disappointed. You could really taste how fresh the food was, it was so delicious. I’ll definitely be back if I’m ever in Raleigh again.

This is our absolute favourite place to get brunch. Brunch is always busy on the weekends so make sure to make a reservation or walk in early to avoid a long wait.
