I’m so glad one of my tour guides recommended this place. This restaurant is definitely being added to my list of favorite foodie spots! The combination of live music, a fun atmosphere, friendly staff, good drinks, and even better food sold me on returning the following night for dinner. I RARELY do that! I had the beer-battered fresh catch entree, which was top tier. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful, all-around, experience. The restaurant is open and lively. The food is fresh and flavorful. I loved that everything we ordered had fresh coleslaw (not pre-packaged or full of mayonnaise). The server was thorough and attentive. The menu is creative. They do not take reservations but my fiancé and I went for lunch and waited only 15 minutes after we were told it would be closer to 30. They have amazing margarita flights with various flavors to choose from. The prices are affordable. We will definitely come back the next time we’re in the area.

Our group needed some sustenance after visiting Volcanoes National Park. We found our way to Pineapples in downtown Hilo and were seated after a 20 minute wait. The dining area is open-air but covered. The restaurant offers a full bar – though we enjoyed some non-alcoholic refreshment. I’m thankful that I went with the recommendation for the pumpkin curry, a fantastic and flavorful vegan option. The portion was enough for 2-3 so I walked away with leftovers. My friends enjoyed their meals as well. Our server was welcoming and we discovered that the photos on display are her artwork and are for sale. Overall wonderful experience!

Was not expecting much although we had seen a line every time we walked by this place. There was live music playing and the food blew us away. My wife got a Cobb salad with fresh fish and I ordered the fish and chips with furikake. The fish turned out to be fresh swordfish. I do not make this claim lightly: hands down the best fish and chips I have ever had. Absolutely delicious from the first bite. Still craving these a week later

I went to Pineapples for dinner with a friend. Pineapples only has outdoor and bar seating areas. They had live music playing when we visited. It was loud enough where you could enjoy it, but not too loud that it hindered your conversations. The environment was very lively and casual. As we were seated, we noticed that almost every table in the restaurant had a drink that came in an actual pineapple.

I was really excited to try this place after seeing all the good reviews, but I thought it was just okay. My husband and I shared nachos, wings, and fish and chips. Maybe those were the wrong things to order because other people’s meals looked a lot better.

Got this recommendation from a “local” and it did not disappoint! I got the grilled Ono and coconut shrimp and it was delicious! Everything from the veggies to the sauce were delectable. They also had a decent list of non-alcoholic beverages, which is uncommon so it was nice to see. I got the pi-NO-calada and it was really tasty. Highly recommend this place, but you must make reservations. We had a reservation for 5pm and we took the last free table in the restaurant. They had live music going on, which helped with the outdoor vibe of this place. Prices were reasonable and in line with the area.
