I have been to a lot of state park restaurants in Kentucky & Tennessee, and this restaurant is clearly a cut above. I had the Manhattan Strip steak. It wasn’t cut like normal. It was a rush of flavor. No need for sauce here folks! Kudos to the chef, waitress, manager & staff! The outside seating provided an amazing view of the Gulf State Park Pier at sunset!

My wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with dinner at Perch. What a beautiful place above the dunes. We had planned to watch the sun set, but a huge storm moved through right at that time. As it turns out, I thought it was more beautiful and interesting with dancing bolts of lightning in the clouds. It didn’t extremely hard, and our table in the corner didn’t even get wet (although the staff said they’d move us in if it became a problem at all). Our server, Okasana was very helpful explaining the menu. Her recommendations were on par. I got the “Seared Scallops with Crispy Pork Belly,” and my wife got the “Grilled Gulf Fish.” YUM! They also have quite a nice selection of bourbons and whiskeys, and my wife had a “Man of War” cocktail that she’s determined to find the recipe for.

The service was great, apps, drinks and food were excellent. We had the ribeye and lamb, both were cooked perfectly. I think the only thing we didn’t love was the creme brulee but overall everything was really nice.

Shrimp cocktail was good, pretzel and cured meats were extremely salty, and we laughed when our dessert came out in under a minute. Our drinks were so strong we may as well have just ordered shots. Cocktails aren’t supposed to burn your throat, there is a science to making a good cocktail. The bartender was free pouring so, after seeing that, it wasn’t surprising that all we could taste was liquor. Also, our waiter (tall guy, dark hair, deep voice) kept commenting on the pace at which we were eating. It was very off putting and he seemed rather condescending.

The view is spectacular! But the food needed more seasoning. My steak was not seasoned, I had to order Au Jus to make it taste better. Your basically paying for the view.

The place is nice. I ordered the braised octopus and it’s a definite no for me. I’ve never been so disappointed with my favorite, it really bothered me Hubby got steak and also a no. Service I so so. We had early dinner so there’s just us.

I stopped in here for lunch, and it was not busy. Initially, our server was attentive, but she dwindled off as we spent time there waiting for our food. The food was nothing to write home about. I did see the menu, and I gave it a shot. I did have the flatbread pizza that had honey on it. The honey was overpowering on the flatbread, and honestly, I am not sure that it was not a frozen pizza. We would have ordered more, but the lack of attention threw us off. Would I recommend eating here? Nope. Give the poolside a try, or give the upstairs a try.

I orderd the same drink on late nite and the start of shift. They look like 2 different drinks right. The drink without foam was from late night shift. I feel the bar tender had an attitude for some reason. But the 5pm shift is with the foam. The guy was awesome.

Update 2023: Unfortunately I had to drop them a star this year. We much prefer the Tapas menu which they no longer offer. The scallops were still amazing but the octopus wasn’t nearly as good as it was last year. The presentation was awesome but the Ponzu fish dish was very salty. The berry tart was delicious, but the didn’t have any decaf coffee?! The saving grace was the wait staff. Just should have been better for the price.

Perch came highly recommended for a chic date night or a romantic evening out. Naturally, we were thrilled to give it a shot. However, our enthusiasm quickly waned as we encountered some service hiccups right from the start, which unfortunately persisted throughout our entire dining affair. The highlight of the evening was definitely the shrimp appetizer, and there’s no denying that the gulf front beach location provided a stunning backdrop. Regrettably, that’s where the positives mostly ended.
