The atmosphere inside this downtown Hilo restaurant is amazing! Modern and comforting. The food is so flavorful. I had the curry chicken sandwich, which was so tasty but not spicy hot. My wife had the chicken spinach pasta, and I wanted to eat her food too because of all the flavors. My friend had the lamb, and it was huge.

What a pleasure we had at Papajacs! The food was delicious, Mia was so friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The coconut limeade mocktail was SO good as well as the homemade lemon ginger ice cream. She accommodated our request for salad even though that’s a lunch item, and it surpassed our expectations. Will happily dine here again!

I don’t normally give places 5 stars, but this is a wonderful place. Ambiance, decor, and staff are professional. I had the lamb shanck, tender to the touch, and flavorful. The Brussel sprouts and carrots were cooked to perfect and seasoned well. Take a nice lunch break or dinner, remember no alcohol served here.

After a long day of hiking and swimming in the area we called in a to go order. The hostess was very accommodating and helpful over the phone. Once we started eating the food was amazing. We had the bratwurst pasta, chicken and spinach pasta and minestrone soup. The rice pudding was the best anyone had ever had. Highly recommend if you are in Hilo!

Beautiful fine dining experience on front street. I had the minestrone, chicken and spinach pasta, hot tea and cheesecake drizzled with chocolate sauce. Everything was fresh and flavorful. A hidden gem. We celebrated our Silver Anniversary. My husband says that the lamb shank and mashed potatoes were amazing!

This place is VERY AFFORDABLE!! All entrees around $15, but the quality of a $30 entree. Sandwiches w/ Salad in pic where $12 each & added soup $4. Place has an upscale vibe: cloth table clothes, cloth napkins, pepper grinder, etc. Very nice place on the Oceanfront in downtown Hilo. We live here and our office is 2 blocks away…so given we know and visited most restaurants here, the is one of the more refined restaurants and super affordable.

Got the ribs and they switched out the side without asking. They didn’t give us any bread like they did the other tables. The food was awful and a long wait for one meal. The restaurant smelled pretty terrible as well. I’m from out of town and have higher expectations I guess. Confused by the reviews on this island. Got my baked beans swapped out by canned corn nobody even bothered seasoning. No butter, nothing. The dressing for the salad was a sugary Italian dressing… The ribs tasted like they were cooked in a burnt pan and the sauce was not good. My husband and I didn’t find anything on our plate that we liked. Way overpriced, I feel scammed.

Today, we checked out a new classy (Damask table cloths, heavy silverware, cloth napkins) upscale, yet affordable Italian Restaurant, located next to Pacific Tsunami Museum called Papajacs! It was a dream come true! So clean, and such beautiful interior! The dishes were mouth-watering and filling! Tom had a Meatball Sandwich , & I had a Chicken Spinach Pasta . (I had to ask for a “Take-Out” tray). Their music track included greats like Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, & Al Jerome…the service was impeccable! We met Papajacs in person ! The view of our incredible Hilo Bay was the bonus! Finally, an Excellent Italian Restaurant, in our precious Hilo… And…”Big Island East Hawaii side people, really Deserve it” Mahalo nui loa, Papajac & staff

The food and service are excellent, and the prices are remarkably low. I’ve eaten there three times now, and been pleased every time. I can recommend the lamb shank, the meatball sub, the shrimp soup and leave room for the lemon ginger ice cream or bread pudding!
