This was a unique and pleasant find within the panhandle of Florida. For my own selfish considerations, I am just glad not many people read my reviews so I can still easily dine here again in the future!

To make it to the restaurant, you need to get through the gate at Baytowne, and have the gate guards give you a daily pass to access the hotel. When you get to the hotel, expect to have to use the valet to park (although you could opt to park in the dirt lot across the golf course).

Exceptional quality. The pork chop was superb. My wife had the grouper and it was amazing. Very creative use of peppers and spices to entice without a trace of unnecessary fats. So good.

Dined here a couple of years ago and everyone raved about the meal. This year, mixed reviews, specifically about saltiness and flavoring of dishes. Apparently, they just changed the menu, so perhaps they are still working out the issues. Previously, it felt as if Ovide was a great restaurant that happened to be in a hotel. Now, it seems as if it’s just a good hotel restaurant. Would eat there if staying Bayside at SanDestin or at the Effie, but it’s no longer a must visit, given the other options in the area.

Ovide is a restaurant in the Effie Hotel in Sandestin. We were not guests at the hotel but the lobby is elegant and luxurious.

We ate here the week of Thanksgiving, and couldn’t have been happier with the food, drinks, and service. This restaurant is unique for the area, and offers a respite from the typical fried, fatty food and cheap/generic wine that seems to be found everywhere else in Destin. The space is beautiful and the service was friendly and helpful. Though we were dining on a Tuesday night, we were surprised with how few people were at the restaurant during our 7:30pm reservation- there may have only been one or two other tables seated, with a few people coming and going at the bar.

We had a lovely dinner at Ovide in the Hotel Effie. The service was a bit slow but not terrible. We had the burrata to start which was lovely. We asked for bread to go with it which they graciously served us. Then came the pork belly which consisted of two thick pieces and was delicious. The grouper was our main course. It was a lovely combination of flavors. Ovide is not a cheap restaurant but it is one to enjoy the atmosphere, the food and drinks.

We live locally and dine out often. We drove in. There is no close parking, so valet is best option. However there is a charge for valet and no voucher for diners. The restaurant is nice and nicely decorated. The serving staff was very nice and attentive. We ordered one appetizer of oysters. They were tasty but so small they were barely visible. My wife had the Garden Salad for dinner and it was excellent. I had the Snapper and it was excellent. However, my dish was served in a bowl with no plate. It was unusual not to have a place to set down my fork except on the table. We had 4 drinks. We expect pricey cocktails when out, but my Maker’s Manhattan in a small coupe glass was $21. Overall, the food besides the appetizer was excellent. However, 21 dollar cocktails and 20 dollar parking pushed the bill for 4 drinks, one app, one salad, and one entre to well over $200. There is no value here and the overall feel is that we were not valued customers or necessarily welcome. I’ve spoken with several locals since and Ovide has already lost their return business. I know we will not return.
