One of the few places in the vicinity open for breakfast before 8 (opens at 7:30). Located in the basement of the Standard Insurance building (just head in there from 5th Ave, there’s no sign of it, just head downstairs). Good hot food that won’t break the budget. I enjoyed a breakfast burrito, made to order.

Over priced and disorganized. $9.50 for a frozen burger patty and handful of soggy fries is ridiculous. You can get a much better, fresh, juicy bacon cheeseburger and loads of fries for 9.50 at the Good Earth located in the jail building a block or so away.

I was lucky enough to find Phillip working the Kitchen. There was lots of great looking fresh food on offer so I was unsure of what to order, Phillip offered to whip me up a Caeser Salad Wrap as I was wanting something quick & easy to take away & then proceeded to genuinely chat to me about my day/trip to Portland while waiting. Great service. Credit to the Outtakes Cafe. Thank you

Ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with lettuce, ketchup, and onion. Bun was moldy. I sent it back, and when the chef brought a new one, she said, “It looked like it was dry and topping less, so I kept it that way.” The sandwich had the chicken from my previous sandwich, but with the ketchup scraped off and no toppings. My previous sandwich was not dry, and as previously stated, had lettuce, onion, and ketchup on it. During this entire debacle, there was a horrible reality show playing on a big TV quite loudly. Never going here again.

Unbelievable how this place has gone down hill over the years. 3 years ago, Outtakes was not only extremely convenient, but very well priced with a good portion size. Today, a lousy burger and fries cost me $11.25. You now put your own fixings on it; tomato, lettuce, pickles, etc.

Food is okay and relatively inexpensive for downtown Portland. Daily specials and fountain drinks are available. A Peet’s coffee stand is also there. Customer service is hit or miss. On this trip they forgot to include my fries on the daily grill special, a fact I didn’t discover until I opened their lunch takeaway box. Other times, they have been great. If you work downtown, it’s affordable enough to go several times a week instead of brown bagging it. There’s an adjacent seating area. Basically, it’s a nice cafeteria.

Good basics. As others have noted, prices rising to be more in line with higher end downtown lunch options.

Friendliest staff around ! Amazing daily specials ! Safest cafe in town ! Ask all the sheriffs you see eating breakfast every morning! Fresh tossed to order salads ! Taco Thursdays! Prime Rib Fridays ! Fresh brewed Peets coffee & espresso! !! Catering is the easiest and best to use ! They delivered a 200 person catering event 8 blocks away as easy as a 20 person event in the same buildings conference rooms ! They rock !
