Outlaw Kitchens Menu – San Antonio, TX

Type : American restaurant

Location : San Antonio, TX

Located at 2919 N Flores St. Outlaw Kitchens is the brainchild of former CIA instructor, Chef Paul Sartory and his wife Peggy Howe.

While working for the CIA, Chef Sartory developed the concept of Outlaw Kitchens. His idea was simple. He would offer one dinner nightly (plus a vegetarian option, an appetizer, desserts, wine & beer) at a price that his friends and neighbors could afford on a regular basis. With fresh, seasonal ingredients in mind and a wife who is skilled at historical renovations they succeeded in turning an 80 year old limestone bungalow located on a quarter acre of land into their home, garden and restaurant.

Based on 282 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price $$

First meal in San Antonio and it’s going to be tough to beat. Great relaxed service. Friendly staff and a really cool property. Say hello to the turkeys! The food was great, and reasonably priced for a delicious three course tasting menu. I’d say get what I got but it might not be there tomorrow and I’m sure that is OK!

Happy to Be here
Don’t come here if you are hungry. The audacity for this restaurant to serve such portion sizes simply demonstrates a lack of respect for their customers. My friends and I all ordered the ravioli dish. We were shocked when we were served a single piece of ravioli that was 80% spinach and had no protein, we had to go to another restaurant immediately after. The dish was $26 on its own and looked like an appetizer for two. At the very least, the service was great.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in San Antonio. The menu changes regularly too. I always love the prix fix menu with pairing. Atmosphere is really great with indoor and outdoor seating. If the weather is nice, you may want to sit outside since, it seems, they have a great set up!

The food was outstanding. Both vegetarian and meat options were delicious. The lamb fell off the bone and had so much flavor. We definitely will reserve on another night. Only thing left to desire was a little bit more leg room. Our party of 4 was cozy enough, just had to do a bit of shuffling to get out of our table/booth arrangement.

Went here during Restaurant Week and was not disappointed. Enjoyed the fixed-price menu and had the lamb chops. The food was very good and service was reasonably quick, especially considering how busy they were. The venue inside is on the small side, which could be dubbed a “cozy” dining experience; but not cramped. Looking forward to sitting outside next time as the fall temps arrive.

Delicious food, great service and awesome atmosphere! The alcohol pairing choice for the meal was great. The Cabernet could stand to be around 50F and not lukewarm room temperature (and maybe served in a wine glass), and some of the portions could stand to be bigger (creme brulee was around two tablespoons in portion size and FYI for the chef; could use a splash of Triple Sec added with the vanilla after combining the scalded heavy cream with the eggs/sugar mixture). I shouldn’t have to go get McDonald’s after spending almost $200 for two here. Shame, cause everything else was great.

Been here a few times now. Food is always good. Owners are great. Service just kinda disappeared this time before dessert. He was standing right next to us but was super involved with the tablet and forgot about us. The owner asked us about dessert and server had already tabbed us out. No apologies for no dessert or anything. And we love Creme Brulee

Loved every bit of this place! The decor, the music, the hospitality and the food! When we walked in we were greeted by the one of the owners Peggy, she was so friendly and sweet. It is nice to see a husband and wife working together ❤️ The food was fantastic! I did the cocktail pairing with dinner and everything complemented each other perfectly! We will definitely be going back again, and again… and again!

Finally lined up with the stars to make it in here. Peggy was fantastic, very busy, but very attentive. And when she wasnt able to get to us, Steve and a young lady (hostess?) Had her back. Parking is odd. Street parking and they ask you to try and not park in front of someones home. Most patrons completely ignored the request. Sad…. No handicap parking that i could see… They have a drop off designated space by the front door. Not helpful. Ok, so the food…. Herb crusted rack of lamb. Juicy. Tender. Wish that beautiful herb flavor was infused in the meat, but overall good…. Haystack potatoes still remind me of shoestring potatoes but obviously not from that can lol… They were layered across a bit of ratatouille… Broccoli was broccoli, nothing major… We had the three course meal. Started with fresh handpulled mozzarella. Yum. Mixed greens. Mixed baby tomatoes. Basil and olive tampinode on a crusty bread. We tried to decide what we liked the most on this plate, but couldn’t, all beautiful flavors dancing in harmony… Dessert was the strawberry shortcake… This was my moms 100%.. Loved it, save room. Now aside from the oddly placed small table by the window we were sat at, with the door to the front patio slamming shut all night behind my friend and the workroom behind me that had people dropping things time and again, it was interesting… Dress accordingly when its hot outside because its just a little less hot inside, even with the ceiling fan.. With our reservation we requested inside, they wanted to sit us at this diner style bar. Looked very uncomfortable. A party of four sat there and spent the evening twisting sideways to talk, just saying… Inside seating seemed hit and miss (more miss)… Patio seating looked much more intentional and spaced… They had those misters on the patio, i have another friend that will not sit with water spraying her makeup or hair… But well even with better spacing its still outside and that hot air just lingered… Overall, we said we would wait for better weather before trying this again.

This restaurant will be our new “go to” restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious and it has a real laid back vibe. We had the best ravioli I have ever eaten We had a stuffed chicken breast as an entree, and it was equally delicious, not dry as chicken breasts often are. We ended our dinner with a delicious peach and vanilla ice cream dessert. We will definitely be back!
