Nice old style cafe, like a big Frost Tops. The side door needs to be labeled though (pictured), and parking is abysmal. Make sure that whoever is driving has GREAT parking skills if you come in a truck!! My burger was delicious but the fries were missing salt. I don’t know if they come that way and they give you what you need to season to your liking, or they made a mistake from being so busy. Overall a pleasant experience.

I visited the Original Dearman’s Soda Shop a couple of days ago. I placed a to go order of hamburgers, fries, and Rootbeer floats. The burgers and floats were good. However, the French fries were a little undercooked and could have been fried a little longer.

Best burger in Baton Rouge, maybe even Louisiana! Fresh hand cut fries! Malts are amazing! The Soda Shop Nostalgia is on point!

While the service and atmosphere was good, the food definitely had the potential to be also. I saw other people enjoying their burger and couldn’t wait to bite into mine. Unfortunately, I had a perfect view of the cooking area. The gentleman cooking the burgers did not have on gloves, nor a hairnet. In fact no one in the kitchen area had on gloves or hats or hairnets. Unfortunately the cook was literally flipping the buns with his bare hand, then he went to get the cooked burger off the grill and placed it on the bun. He then slid the burger onto the bun with his gloveless hand. Before he proceeded to the next burger he wiped his hand on his apron and proceeded to cook. I watched him in action for about 15 minutes. Needless to say after witnessing such unsanitary actions, I had no desire to eat my burger.

Cute little diner. The prices are affordable and the food is ok. My sweet potato fries were under cooked, the burger was a bit dry but not too bad. No one in the kitchen area (which you can see from the dining room) had gloves on while handling the food.

The ham and turkey are wonderfully delicious and perfect for parties. I also love their packaged beans and the side dishes they have at Christmas. Service is perfect…one call and a drive to the store and you have a fantastic dinner on the table in no time. Great for last minute guests!

I love burgers, and theirs is a pretty good one. The fries, however, were served burnt. There is no excuse this should ever happen. We tried to pick through the stack but gave up early.
