There are Chinese restaurants everywhere, but most of them are locally adapted. This is the only authentic Chinese food I have found in New Hampshire. Double sautéed pork, fish fillet in hot chili oil and steamed fish are my favorites.

If you are craving some Chinese (American Chinese) food and you are in the vicinity of Dartmouth College, then this is the place for you. It offers an ample menu of all the well known and beloved comfort foods for that lazy weekend afternoon.

I”m not sure what these negative reviews are all about. For basic American-style Chinese food, this is the best I’ve ever had. Of course it’s not a high-end “authentic” Chinese food place (whatever that is). But for less than $10, you get a lunch complete with soup, won-ton chips, and a generously-portioned meal. I ate here two days in a row and enjoyed it both times. Plus, the staff was very friendly.

I live in Thetford, but almost every time I pass through Hanover I will stop by the Orient for dinner. I love the flavor of their Tangerine Beef. If you prefer spicy dishes I recommend their Pork with Garlic Sauce from the authentic menu. Their waiters are always very polite and kind. Service is very good but sometimes a bit slow on weekends because they tend to be a lot busier on those days. Going out to eat at the Orient is something that my family enjoys very much. I recommend going for lunch, their lunch combo is not expensive at all, and has portions that are just the right size.

First off, if you want the best authentic Chinese food in this area, you should go to Orient Wok Express (and order off their authentic Chinese menu). If you want sit down Chinese food though, The Orient is a decent option.

The food was tasty and the scorpion bowl is very good. Of course, it is a restaurant in the bottom floor so the atmosphere is ok. We wanted sushi but they were out of some ingredients. I would go back when I am in the mood, so overall I would recommend.

They were “out of” Sushi. Waiter was less than thrilled to be waiting on us. We had Chinese instead of Japanese, it was tasty, not amazing, but good. Nice size portions. Sake was nice and warm.

The lunch special is a good value, but lunch seems to be the best time to go there – best service, food, etc. Dinner could be improved. I personally like the twice sauteed pork and the dried tofu and pork with scallions. I don’t typically order the lo-mein and fried rice from here; prefer the one at Oriental Wok Express. If you are from the suburbs or a large city and you are expecting PF Chang-style American Chinese food, then you will be sorely disappointed. Oriental Wok Express at the Jolley gas station is highly recommended for those looking to order from a “secret” authentic dishes menu.

As a student at Dartmouth I would always go out to eat at the Orient. My favorite dish is the Beef with Broccoli, the broccoli is very fresh and delicious, and the beef is oh so tender! My favorite drink to have with friends is the Scorpion bowl! Lots of alcohol in it, and the fire on top is a nice touch. The Orient is also a very good place to have a party or a reunion. Their staff is always very friendly and polite. My one complaint, and my friends also agree with this is that their music is too slow. I prefer fast and lively music so I hope that they change it soon.

Chinese American food, but more bland. I couldn’t stand to finish my dish. Service was very kind and respectable, place was clean. They have a typical offering of alcoholic drinks and scorpion bowls. But really exist as the only sit down Chinese food in Hanover.
