I don’t even know where to start with this review…. The restaurant is very hot, humid, and muggy. Not sure what the vibe and atmosphere was supposed to be? Mexican restaurant with beach decor?

Nixta, named after Nixtamalization (traditional Mexico and Central America method to process maize) is another of Bengelina hospitality group star modern Mexican restaurant. The bright wall colors, decor and seating space in patio as well as inside will feel like you are transported to a Mexican beach cantina. Friendly staff, great drinks, small menu of starters, sides and entrees and fast service adds to the value of this place. Reservation through Tock is recommended. We had Ben as our server who was great with recommendations for food and desert! The Escolar ceviche and vinaigrette of Antojito perfectly complements the warm Nachos. Crispy octopus was artistically served and Tamale as well as Tacos were great as well. Portion size is on smaller side so so add a side of green or red rice etc. Overall a great experience and unlike any regular Mexican place in the city.

Ah, Nixta. A place that defies conventional expectations, Nixta in Tower Grove, St. Louis, is a culinary masterpiece hidden in plain sight. The unassuming exterior might not catch your eye, but step inside and you’ll find a quaint, colorful, and beautifully adorned space that promises a memorable experience.

Went on one of the busiest nights for them no doubt, Cinco de Mayo. We got there in the 9 o’clock hour and were told by the hostess, Natalie, we could sit at the bar if we wanted to be seated immediately luckily.

Unhidden neighborhood gem in the heart of Shaw. Simple, but elegant. This is Mexican food at its finest. If I had been here another week, I would have eaten here 3 or 4 times. Make sure to start with guacamole. Yes, you can make it at home and yes, it is worth it. One must get the picante margarita with tequila infused with 7 peppers and the tajin rim. The smoked pork enchiladas with “Christmas” moles are perfection every bite and the octopus tender. If was cow I still might not be satisfied because I wouldn’t have enough stomachs.

This highly rated restaurant did not disappoint. First ambiance was very hip and chill. The servers were both knowledgeable and attentive. The pace of service was fantastic. Amazing drink selection. Margaritas were the best in town. As an extra treat they had a nice selection of Sotol. We had the small plates. Tacos, Tamalpais, enchiladas. All amazing but the vegetarian enchiladas were extra special.

Food was really good and the Baja style fish tacos were extremely well done. The tortillas were nicely warmed and the fish was well battered and good sized pieces. The chips were also extremely good and the salsa held its own very well. The guacamole was very creamy and tasted fresh, and the service was also attentive. The only downside would be the margaritas which were just ok and the tacos could have used a side such as some rice or beans.

Solid Mexican spot. Appetizers were great. Main courses were good. Definitely a nice spot for a date night, but the cocktails left something to be desired.

This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. The food and drinks are a creative and eclectic mix of flavors, colors and presentation. The portions are small and intended to be shared tapas-style. As each dish was brought to our table, it was one WOW after another. Loved everything we ordered. The menu items change, so don’t get your heart set on one thing. Nevertheless, our favorites were the Sikil Pak (a pumkin seed dip– amazing!), Lamb with Snap Pea Salsa, Jonah Crab Salpicon (citrus, watermelon relish, cilantro avocado, crab–fabulous combo!), Green Pozole in puffed tortilla, and Chorizo Verde. I loved my pomegranate ginger margarita, too. We’ll definitely be back. Reservations are recommended–the place is small, and it was packed on a Wednesday evening.
