Nita’s Gumbo recipe originated in the New Orleans kitchen of the late Irving Sheldon Jones. He moved to Chicago in 1921 but kept his Louisiana roots alive by making time for the authentic French-Creole styled Gumbo he loved to make.
Irving passed along his recipe to his daughter Anita, and taught her how to make the most important ingredient in any Gumbo…the roux! For hours Anita would watch her father cook with pride whenever he prepared this Louisiana family recipe. It was here she learned the art of cooking, embraced the joy of creating and, under his watchful eye, mastered the techniques behind the taste of his intoxicating Gumbo.

This was fine of the best gumbo I’ve ever had! The flavors were perfect however the serving size was pretty small for a $20 bowl. I ordered from UberEats and was worried I wouldn’t get my cake and soda, the restaurant called and told me they only had caramel cake and it was delicious! Wiretap experience overall.

Great food, great staff however my cheesecake had mold on it which is very unfortunate and a waste of money considering the fact that i bought 2 of them. I will just stick to the food instead of dessert next time around.

Ordered the seafood gumbo on a recommendation. The taste of the gumbo was spot on but the crab was fake, there was no andouille sausage and the scallops were slightly over cooked. Not worth the $35 price point. I wouldn’t order it again. The guy who took my order was very pleasant.

Gumbo is tasty, but the portion size is really small. You get less than a scoop of gumbo for $15, with like 2 shrimp, a few flakes of crab meat, a half scallop and a few pieces of chicken and sausage. The portion size is not worth the price at all.

Don’t order here if you are inpatient or in a rush. They sound nice over the phone. But, customer service sucks. They had nothing that I originally wanted. That should have been the 1st red flag….I placed a phone order that was $55+. I was quoted a time & had to wait a extra hour on top of the half & hour I was quoted on the phone. Plus my 20 min traveling time. When I asked what was the hold up. I was told they had a big order they had 2 accommodate which made me feel like my lil $55 wasn’t nothing. Then to get my food that was all the way overrated. Chicken was salty & soggy. Gumbo rice was salty, cold, rice was hard. Let’s not even talk about the shrimp. It’s about satisfying your customers & I am not a satisfied customer. OVERRATED RESTAURANT!! As much as I try 2 support our black owned businesses they get too sudity & conceited. As if your $$ means nothing to them. It’s a NO for me. Never again…Wasted time & money

I stumbled upon this place late one night driving down stoney. I got there right before closing and they still took my order. After driving 20 mins to eat , my food was still hot a very full of flavor. My only issue is the last time I ordered from there, my gumbo did not have enough juice over it. I will be back every chance I get.

I went to this restaurant a few days ago and even when you’re standing in the lobby you must go over to a filthy little tablet next to the window to order. Most of the items on the menu are not available because they’re on their “summer menu” and you can’t buy anything else. So even if certain ingredients are in some of the dishes, you can’t get them in others. And you can’t order a large bowl of gumbo. You can only get a half order. They let me, a willing, paying customer walk out of the door without trying to get my money by appeasing me. They lost my business and I live only a couple of blocks away. Last time I went before the most recent business, things were raggedy too. But I gave them another chance. No more!
