About Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati’s is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor.
Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940’s working in Chicago’s first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago’s best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday.

We happened to pick an uncharacteristic bad night. Their phone system was routing orders to another location, so when we went to pickup our pizza, they didn’t have our order. The same thing happened to several other customers. So we had to wait for them to make and bake our pizza after they finished making pizzas for other previous customers. Over an hour had passed.

I asked for no letter or tomato, as you see it’s plenty of it! I said hot peppers, but no hot peppers!! Asked for fruit as a side, they put the cold fruit in the tray with the hot sandwich! The fruit looked dirty, and old, and wasn’t sweet at all, and the chicken breast tasted burned up, dry and tasteless!

I ordered a deep dish pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni. Despite having it cooked an extra 5 minutes it was overcooked. The pepperoni was burned as was the top edges of crust. I’ve never had that happen before. Check your pizzas before leaving. I would have asked for a refund if it had.

I recently lost my father. This tragedy has been a dark cloud over me. I walked in and within a few minutes the owner/manager (I didnt catch his name) figured out that something was wrong. He talked to me for over 20 minutes. Excellent service that goes beyond food service just being a great person. This place has always been great and this only reaffirms that even more. Thanks for being there when I was in a low moment.

Unfortunately I had to change my rating. They are certainly not very efficient. We placed an order through their online system to be picked up at 6:00 p.m.. The order was placed at 4:00 p.m. the same day. The pizza was ready 30 minutes late and when I approached them with my complaint I was greeted with an attitude instead of acknowledgment of their mistake. Safe your time and don’t go here.

I didn’t know what a Chicago-style pizza really is until I nibble on it.

Even without the pizza, Lou Malnati’s is delicious! I sometimes stop in just to pick up a Lou Malnati’s salad for the family. Even my picky eaters love it, the only salad that they actually request.
