A few trails to hike and a paved one to go to the peak of Mount Mitchell. The tallest peak on the East Coast. The gift shop was cash only, so make sure you have cash. Their wire was cut by accident 2 weeks ago and it had not been fixed. So to be on the safe side bring cash for souvenirs. The snack shop was working on another line so they still took credit cards. The burial place of Mr. Mitchell is at the peak of the mountain.

Don’t worry ! You can drive almost to the summit ❣️ interactive museum and gift shop both are worth stopping in. You could spend hours in the museum with so much information about North Carolina’s tallest mountain. The gift shop husband and wife team were the most helpful on a cold day, they didn’t stop till we found a hoodie for a cold hiker. Thank you! The snack and sandwich bar was manned by the owner of our campsite! (Surprise)

Friendliest, nicest people around! Beautiful view, great gift shop and fantastic service. Our waitress was so sweet and the owner was very nice. The food was great, the value & quality. The kids meal options/portions could not be beat. Next time we are traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, we will be making a pit stop here for sure!

Our waitress couldn’t really suggest ‘the best’ dish. Apparently she hasn’t tasted all of them. It took a long time for our food, and weren’t given any napkins – we had sandwiches and fries. The food tasted good and were nice portions. They could easily charge more. Loved our view!

We started our hike from Black Mountain campground. Scenery is beautiful along the trail. Bring enough water and something to eat. It almost 4 and a half hour hike. Very rewarding once you reach the summit. One of the best hike.

Casual dining. Hard to find restaurant workers who will drive 25 miles each way to work, so I was grateful to be served lunch. Diner food, light on selection, price was good, view was five star though-drove up my rating! We had the black bean burger + fries.

Pleasantly surprised at cost for value on portions. There is often a wait, but the views from the rocking chairs make the time easy and fun. Schedule your visit or hike with expecting to eat here on the way up or down. New path is wheel friendly all of the way to the top. The balsam trail in my pictures is what we took from the top down to parking lot. That’s a new 3 month old and 3 year old hiking with 6 and 8 too. I was injured in a boot. So it’s very manageable. Have not tried the trails in 20 years

Mount Mitchell State Park is a great piece of Americana History. One of the most prestigious eco systems east of the Mississippi. A vast array of challenging hiking trails, as well as panoramic views, camp sites and weather you can only experience if you go. The restaurant provides a good selection of eats for all to enjoy. Life’s short, Take a Hike.

Amazing views from the observation patio (with rocking chairs). I enjoyed the outside grounds immensely. Had to wait for a table, but they were really kid friendly. Service was good. Wifi did not work. Food was solidly good, but not amazing. It was perfect for our Sunday family day. Felt like a good value for the money, especially when you consider the views from your table!
