I arrived in bay area in 2017 after years as the apprenticeship at the head store Moo Bong Ri, one of South Korea’s best traditional restaurant. We arrived at an really late lunch hour, around 2:30pm, and the wait was still about 10mins. When we were seated the food took another 35-40mins to come out after we placed our orders. That’s why I’m only giving it 4 stars but the food here was really good. We only ordered two items but they were large items meant for sharing.

Our food took about 30 minutes to come out. We went on a slower Thursday afternoon for reference. The sides dishes were really good and the servers were nice. The rest of the meal was pretty bland and the rice that we were served tasted old.

We went there twice already in one month. There foods are automatically tasty. We loved the pork belly wraps especially and the garlic fried chicken. The spicy soup we ordered was fantastic the second time we had it. However, the service somehow left us unsure what to expect from here and other Korean restaurants. Maybe it’s the culture that makes us unable to understand the under-service. I mean, if a restaurant expects customers to tip for 18% upwards, usually they will take care of you pretty well and check on you during the meal. Maybe we expected to much from them. We just felt reasonably under-served.

Moo Bong Ri was awesome! The service was fast, we came when they were moderately busy on a Thursday but we were able to be seated within 10 minutes of arriving. The ambiance on the inside was very upbeat and clean. There were a lot of booths which I’m keen on for a more intimate seating experience, and there were a few tables set up with seats for larger parties. When we sat down a minute later they brought water cups, two types of banchan: pickled daikon and kimchi. This was the best kimchi I’ve ever had at a restaurant, so someone definitely “put their whole foot into it”(southern expression for cooking with love and care). They brought out I and my old co-workers beverages as well. The pear juice and rice milk had an interesting taste to them, but they still got drank! The sparkling watermelon drink tasted like a water melon soda if one ever did exist and it was rather tasty as well. As for the main dish, the Kalbijim, it was delicious! It actually had a good level of spice to it, but the stew it was cooked in was still sweet and sumptuous. Not every piece fell perfectly off the bone, but it didn’t affect the delicious taste. When we finished our meal and still had a large amount of food left between the 3 of us (this was a hefty stone pot of meat and stew) one of our waiters brought us plastic containers to package our food to go. Definitely coming back if I’m ever in proximity again!

Restaurant is great but it’s a dangerous place to dine in. My car’s rear window was smashed and two backpacks gone. Security guard at the parking lot even took a photo of criminal’s car but no one cares, police didn’t come, told to file a report online and that’s it. Watch out for criminal’s license plate: California 6ZLE824.

Came here to eat and was not disappointed. Great wings, fried chicken and all the food was delicious. Top it off with some peach and plum Soju and you got a recipe for a good time. Staff was really attentive as well, so overall will definitely come back.

The short rib soup was delicious and spicy. And the chicken wings were nice , crispy and juicy. The cold noodles were nice and tender. Group of 4 or more would be best. Nice portions
