Small. Local. Not whitewashed like so many others. What else could you ask for in ambience? The food is delicious, the people friendly, and the atmosphere is quiet. I’ve had no problems with portions (and neither have my friends).

Came in at 630 on a Monday and grabbed appetizers (miso soup and ginger salad) which were great and then ordered a crazy dragon roll along with a volcano roll. Both came out in orderly time and tasted amazing. The service was quick and polite, never pushing to order or leave. Would come back anytime!

Sushi is an art. It’s a rice dish as well. You absolutely have to get the rice right or it’s not good. The rice was so wet I couldn’t even tell if it was sushi grade rice. Fish was not fresh.

This was the worst food I’ve ever paid for. I got medium rare steak hibatchi. This is what came. It was $21. Over cooked to the point of resembling jerky and absolutely horrible. $4 salad. Just lettuce. $3 soup, looked and tasted like dishwater. I am flabbergasted that this place is even allowed to serve food. Spoke to someone on the phone and they blamed the Uber driver for “eating my food”. Disgusting place that hires an equally disgusting staff. These people are shameless and have no quality— food or service.

Shellfish allergy warning: I think this is the only bad review I’ve ever written but I wanted to do it for other people with food allergies. I really wanted to love this place but honestly I was given a real scare and will not be coming back. I was searching for an appetizer with my friend and I asked the server if the Shumai (just shumai on menu) had shrimp. I know they traditionally contain shrimp but I’ve always seen “Shrimp Shumai” on menus and really wanted dumplings. The server replied that they did not have shrimp. I said that was fantastic, expressly mentioning that I have a shrimp allergy. Appetizer comes out I take a bite and immediately know it’s shrimp, slight taste of fish with pink and white meat. I pointed it out to the server who had to check with back-of-house themselves if the dumplings did or did not have shrimp. They comes back to apologize and explains that there were 2 varieties of dumpling—one with shrimp and one with pork. They said the shrimp shumai would not appear on the check, I asked if we could just have the pork dumplings as long as it’s a different recipe. I ended up calling my partner who was at our home a 5 minute walk away. If my partner wasn’t home and if I wasn’t familiar with the museum district and where the nearest drug store/corner store was-then I would have been in huge danger. I was already in danger but fortunately my allergy is not as deadly as it could be—still serious but my partner was able to deliver some antihistamines in time. Sushi was absolutely fine but perhaps a little low in quality for the price. Our server was completely absent the entire time but I’m not sure what their team was telling them to do so I won’t hold it against them. My friend and I joked that the most disappointing part of it all was that the dumplings weren’t even that good and they did not comp the pork dumplings. Please inform all staff of common allergens from day one. Not everyone will have the same luck as I did

Daughter and I love to try new sushi restaurants. We wanted to go down to Cary Street on a Saturday night to be able to walk around and check out some of the other stores. We had never been to Momotaro, so we thought we would give it a try. We were a tad worried since it was like 7pm on a Saturday night and we were the only people in the place and only ones the whole time we were there. We did see quite a bit of to go orders to go though. We ordered a Eel Dragon roll, eel roll, spicy tuna and tempura shrimp roll. The gentleman that waited on us was super nice and quick to help us out. Our order didn’t take overly long to get made why we’re waiting though they have a pretty cool saltwater fish tank setup for my daughter and I watch the fish for a while which was kind of fun. The decor is pretty cool, not a very large place maybe 10 tables or so and they had 1 table set up out on the sidewalk. Both my daughter and I thought the sushi was really good. I thought the quality was pretty top-notch and the size of the rules we’re pretty filling. Don’t know if it was a fluke and just a time and when we went with no one there but this place should definitely be much busier. When we venture back down to Cary Street again for sushi, I’m sure we would be stopping in.

A waste of money. The sushi is worse than the sort you’d find at a gas station or grocery store.
