I must admit I’m quite pleased with my overall experience at Molly’s La Casita . The entire staff from the front door to the back everyone was very attentive and nice. Staff members recommended their fav. I tried the southwest egg rolls simply perfect either ranch dressing. I got the Mexican Spinach (picture below) really good. The Mexican wings has a perfect crispy and seasoning. I love seasoning. The drinks are so worth it I got the sangria mixed with margarita . Again I loved my entire experience

When I visited Molly’s on July 6, 2023, it was the first time I had been there for Tex-Mex in a long time. I went to The University of Memphis years ago and lived in Memphis for a while as an adult. I was excited to return. However, on this recent visit, I entered from the back of the building and did not see the sign on the sidewalk at the front that said that a mandatory 20 percent service charge was included in the bill. Service was horrible. It was VERY slow, and our server did not really check on us to see what we needed. They were not that busy. The food was good—but not as good as I recall. When the server brought the card machine for the bill, he did not inform us about the 20 percent service charge. Out of courtesy, I left him $5, which I wouldn’t have done had I known about the service charge. It was definitely not worth the price (almost $45 for an entrée and two drinks), and I will not be returning to Molly’s until this policy changes. I recommend that you not go either. There are too many other choices nearby: Huey’s or Memphis Pizza Café or any of the other Overton Square venues.

We love Molly’s! Love to dine in…great food, atmosphere, & service. Their refried beans are something special. Nothing like them at any other Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to. Their tamales are my favorite entree. We haven’t been able to go to Molly’s for a while due to my wife’s health issues. So we got our son to pick up an order recently. Got double beans with both our entrees AND 5 extra sides of beans, which we ate on for a couple days. YES, they are that good! We miss getting to go regularly like we used to. Love Molly’s!

Molly’s is a Midtown Memphis staple now laying claim to being the oldest Mexican restaurant in the city, established in the ‘70s. That context is important when approaching their food, which is era-appropriate Tex-Mex with a vegetarian flair. Stick to Tex-Mex classics (chimichangas, enchiladas, tamales, combination plates, etc.) and you should be pleased. Bacon-wrapped shrimp and unique refried beans are also menu highlights. They still struggle with service sometimes (the handheld POS system is so awkward), but I’m happy to see some other improvements with the new owners who seem more receptive to making changes to keep the restaurant relevant and more approachable to newcomers. The host stand is now located at the Madison street entrance, the space is getting brighter, and the menu is tidier. I do really wish they’d get the prices of their drinks down—that’s really my limiting factor. The margaritas (half and half) are very tasty and strong but still too pricey. Pro tip: visit on Margarita Mondays when margaritas are $2 off all day

Early dinner was delicious, service was good, and the atmosphere was fine. Idk if they added a20% tip to ticket before or after I left a tip, but I was surprised to see it on my final receipt. I didn’t have time to ask & wait for an answer or adjustment, but I’ll definitely ask first next time.

Been going to this place for 25 years. But like so many other restaurants, they think just because people want to go out to eat, they can lower their quality of service and quality of food and people will keep going anyway. On top of that, they insult you by automatically adding 20% gratuity. I’ve always tipped at least 20%, but what is the motivation to provide good service if it’s included? Not going back.

Everyone knows Molly’s is a classic midtown joint, and it has been there for so long for a reason! I went there with my family after a zoo outing, we were tired, hungry, and (most importantly) thirsty! Y’all go get their top shelf margaritas! So worth the extra couple bucks. They were strong that’s for sure, I had 2 and was tipsy, but also had a great taste. Also you gotta go for the bacon wrapped shrimp app, and the seven layer dip, soooooo good you’ll be fighting folks to eat the last bite.

The server kinda ruined the whole experience honestly. We went there for drinks. The server rang in our drinks wrong and then in an attempt to fix it, he poured it into another glass and said that it was fixed, which it was not. Then at the end made up every excuse to make us pay for something we clearly said multiple times the one ingredient we didn’t want yet, which was salt, and it came out with that ingredient everywhere. I know Molly’s is a staple for midtown, but the service…. Definitely not worth a forced 20% service fee on every check no matter the size of the group. 1 out 10. Bad customer service ruins any dining experience.

I always like Molly’s food, even when they bring me the wrong stuff, which has happened often enough for me to order by telling them to just surprise me and bring an extra ramekin of their excellent mole sauce on the side. The margaritas are great. The service has been good at times and terrible at others. The poor service is Molly’s seems to be related to being short-staffed which has been an issue since years before COVID.

Tex-Mex food is not the best description for the menu. “Fish taco plate” was like taco bell hard shield tacos but overpriced, the “mex plate” with a tamal and enchilada was horrible, couldn’t even see it was a tamal, it was “cornmeal something” with can-sauce on top lacking of flavor, and if you like salsa it charge you extra, plus they add 20% service fee on top of the price plus tax. *that’s besides gratuity* I wouldn’t mind if the food were good homemade Tex-Mex. I will not recommend it at all.
