Inspired by the wood-fired Robata grills of Japan, Mizu offers a refreshed take on live-fire cooking atop the Hyatt Centric in the heart of Charlotte’s SouthPark neighborhood. Led by the award-winning Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the rooftop restaurant combines the traditions of ancient Japanese cooking with Southern influences and Asian flavors. The chef offers a seafood-focused menu composed of wood-fired, raw, and chilled offerings. True to the word Mizu’s translation to ‘water’ in Japanese, the space’s design takes inspiration from natural elements, which are incorporated throughout the chic, minimalist restaurant, and outdoor terrace with sweeping city views.

Great place and pretty decent view from the rooftop. We got an yakitori (grilled chicken) and it was very juicy and loved the flavor. Entree was a hit and a miss. Pork chop was not very tender and little chewy, but the salmon was excellent. Staff were friendly and offered us free shrimp cocktail since it was our first time at the restaurant which was very sweet.

We had such a great time at this roof top venue! Firecracker shrimp could have been little more spicy but its based on taste i guess! It was perfectly cooked otherwise. The name was deceiving lemon roll was delicious though. Sarah was our server and she was wonderful. We were here till closing and no one rushed us out!

I wish I could give them 10 stars! My husband and I are visiting from out of town and decided to come here for our anniversary/baby moon. We made reservations on Sunday but unfortunately they were closed for Easter! The director John called us asap and let us know and immediately accommodated us for Saturday night. The vibes were amazing as soon as you walked in, the staff were all so welcoming, so knowledgeable about the menu and so so sweet. Our waitress was the absolute best.(I’m so mad I can’t remember her name right now, but she was everything!!) I’ve never had a more perfect dinner experience! She even accommodated me being pregnant while helping us celebrate, she brought me some sprite and my husband some champagne to toast and made sure that she didn’t recommend or bring us anything with raw fish and that meant the world to me. We will most definitely be back here to celebrate every special occasion that we can! They truly treated us like royalty. We can’t thank you guys enough for making our night perfect! (Literally, I think we said thank you 10000 times and it still didn’t feel like enough)

We came a few times when it opened and had an incredible time. Just went again recently during restaurant week (July 2023):

I did not have any food in the restaurant but did go into the bar area to have some drinks and sit outside. The next time I’m in town I’ll be sure to have some food at the restaurant. If you want to sit outside on the top floor, there’s a designated seating area that does not require any reservations in the first part of the outdoor area. So that’s pretty good. And I set up there for two nights just chilling and on the second night I got to see some fireworks in the distance. There’s no wait staff for the outside or the bar area so you have to go to the bar and order your own drinks. Overall not much to complain about and next month I hope to make it back and I’ll check out the restaurant.

We gave Mizu a try this week. It was raining so we sat inside (want to try to outdoor patio! Two of us for dinner and we tried a number of small plates and a roll along with a couple cocktails each. We had the tuna crisp, iron man roll, pork belly buns, firecracker shrimp, and cheese cake for dessert. The tuna was great, the iron man roll was unique and yum, we would pass on the pork belly next time (pork was too chewy), shrimp were good, and the cheese cake was delicious. Almost forgot – we had edamame as well with a ridiculous garlic, chili topping- probably some of the best I’ve had (and I’ve had a lot)!

At first glance… Loved how Mizu is laid out & nicely decorated…upscale & very elegant, but honestly was captured mostly by the atmosphere of a friendly personable staff that greet you with a smile. Our server was very attentive and was very knowledgeable of the menu and offered suggestions. We had Beef tartare, lemon drop, & chocolate tahini cake for dessert. Wow! Superb. 5 *S*T*A*R*

Best cod I’ve had at a restaurant in Charlotte. It had a delicious flavor, so good I could hardly put my fork down. And they made the skin so crispy so it added to every bite. I would not recommend the tuna tartare starter… just doesn’t seem worth the money for 4 tiny crackers with thinly sliced tuna on them. The Iron Man was a hearty, filling and delicious roll and the octopus shareable was very tasty, sitting in a nice sauce. Another unexpected treat we had was the sake: We purchased a bottle of the lowest priced sake and it was SO GOOD. A bottle pots about 7-8 little glasses, so it went a very long way!

Place is very nice. Food didn’t stand out for me to much though. I liked it but expected more. Edamame was rather bland. The view on a great night is fantastic so def sit outside. Espresso is terrible however.
