After eating here both for dinner and brunch, I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re adventurous and not afraid of spice.

Really wanted to love this place after seeing the sample menu but unfortunately fell short of our expectations. Brussel sprouts bhaji was definitely the highlight. But everything else was under seasoned ( asked for salt which made some improvements) and the balance of some dishes were just a little off. Received a comp sorbet which was alright. Maybe stick to flavors you know and work on pumping out a consistent product.

The food, service, and atmosphere are amazing. The staff makes you feel like family. The food is on another level with its freshness and its incorporation of fresh fruit and veggies. 9.6/10

First time here. Great fusion food with great service and bar program. Ordered the Lechon Kawli with the fresh corn grits and 7th ward braised greens. While I liked the grits, they were definitely not traditional and lacked the creaminess I love. They were sweet and chucky and felt like an upscale version of zea’s with chucks of sweet corn. The greens were kale when I had them and were amazing. The Lechon was definitely done to perfection and crispy and sweet and fatty all at the same time. They were served with pickled onions and were definitely the star of the meal. I was glad that I had the French toast. It came across as a line cook’s love letter to the pb&j. It’s grilled on all sides to crispy perfection and layered with peanut butter. It sits in an amazing jam and creme englais with a gelato scoop that really brings it all together.

Roger, Sophina and the team at Mister Mao hosted our ~55 person wedding reception in April 2023, allowing us to book out the whole restaurant on a Saturday night. It was a one-of-a-kind event and the best meal I (and our guests who have been raving about it ever since) have ever had. The team at Mister Mao hosted us for a tasting and accommodated our guests many dietary restrictions, all while preparing a fantastic cocktail menu, wine parings and 4 course meal. It was honestly perfection. We could not be more happy with how the event turned out.

We came here for brunch and were blown away by both the quality and the quantity of food. They told us it was ‘family style’ portions, but we didn’t listen and ended up with almost an entire second meal left over

Oh MAN I wanted to love this place after perusing the menu (!!), but the execution wasn’t there. Great space, friendly and attentive staff, creative cocktails. My partner and I agreed on all the dishes aside from desert. The one shining star—the shrimp dumplings. A walk through the other dishes to highlight what I mean when I say execution was lacking: the papaya salad was overly pungent, the balance between the (likely) fish sauce and other flavors was way skewed; the Sichuan cucumber salad was fresh, crunchy……it just lacked any fire whatsoever that you’d associate with ‘Sichuan ‘; the char Sui fried rice was fine, but nothing spectacular, and the few small pork pieces were very bland; the pork dumplings tasted like an undercooked breakfast sausage; finally, the most disappointing was the fried chicken—it was moist, but it was as if they forget to salt/season it……completely bland. The chili oil it sat in was good, but not enough to compensate for the lack of seasoning…… and the white sauce in the oil did nothing to heighten the flavors. I applaud the creativity, I applaud the atmosphere. However, if you’re going to ride on “inauthentic ” you’ve at least got to be as good as the authentic. Try it yourself and see what you think, but I was unfortunately underwhelmed.
