Plan on a stop here. Just simply plan a stop. Andrew Zimmern not only stopped here, but said on TV it’s one of the places he’ll fly to for lunch. This is the reason I made it a stop on my travel list. The place is an old school mom and pop style.

I got the pleasure of having Miss Myra’s granddaughter take my order and serve me. Friendly and straight forward with the menu. If you are looking for something frilly this isn’t it.. Good old fashioned Alabama BBQ with banana pudding made from scratch. This is the CHEERS of BBQ everyone knows your name and face of your a regular and there is no shortage of regulars here. I had the combo plate with 2 meats (chicken and pork), chicken was awesome, pork a little dry but great smoke flavor and when I added some red sauce it juiced it up . Baked beans has a good taste with what seems to be a hint of honey.. I did get the banana pudding for desert and it was absolutely delicious. It was nice to relax and people watch while Myra and her team interacted with customers and served them up some great food.

Great bbq joint in Birmingham. Ribs are divine. Save room for one of their delicious desserts. Banana Pudding to Lemon Ice Box pie. This is definitely one of the best non chain restaurants to get your barbeque fix on.

I was passing through Birmingham and and decided to take a quick detour to Miss Myra’s after reading up on Alabama BBQ. Walking up to the restaurant, you could smell and see the smoke coming from the chimneys, obviously this led to instant and unconscious salvations with the brain fully expecting a severing of smoked meats.

I got the rib plate and while the beans and greens were very tasty the ribs were just meh. I tasted zero smoke, zero seasoning and the meat had that steamed texture that just isn’t a pleasurable bite.

Good food, but terrible attitudes in both the cashier and the woman behind the counter who seemed irritated when my mother was asking for a pie from the bakery case. The cashier shouted pie flavors at us because she could evidently not be bothered to get up and wait on a customer. We left without buying anything and will not be coming back.
