If you want authentic Japanese food on the cheap, the food court of Mitsuwa (several supermarkets in SoCal) is always a good option. Misasa at the Torrance location has several “donburi” and “bento” dishes that are good and reasonably priced. If you want higher quality, your only choice is a much more expensive full-service restaurant.

The bento box are a really good value with tasty salad and soup. I especially love the vegetable that comes with the bento box that consist of lotus root, carrots, beans and konjac jelly ( not pictured here )! Zaru soba is equally awesome !

Located inside the Mitsuwa. Ordered their Katsudon, it was ok, big serving though. I would have preferred a tastier version and egg that’s less cooked which made it more dry than usual. The pork was cooked well though and not bad for a less than $10 order.

Not knowing everyone’s taste for Japanese foods, a college friend recommended lunch at the food court just to the left of Mitsuwa grocery at Del Amo Mall. Indeed, all four of us choose four different establishments. Misasa’s clean and orderly counter caught my attention. As I was looking at the menu board, I saw a picture of a lunch plate flash on a monitor. . . My lunch. WOW, restaurant quality and presentation at a cafeteria price. The fish was lightly salted and juicy. Did you notice the preferred white ginger? Fresh salad and their house dressing balanced the fish and miso soup was just right. For dessert, I had a mochi from the sweets shop. Due to the COVID-19 social distancing protocol, after you place your order, a pager is provided. Our lunch was eaten on their spacious outdoor patio. (Indoor seating area closed). Seating arrangements include bench seating as well as individual tables. Shade or sun, your choice.

Really love this place, but my fault for eating something I didn’t fully understand. Still great rice though!
