I’ve been going to this restaurant for about 40 years, and it is unique and irreplaceable. But be warned, you will either love it or hate it. It is like “The Dress” or “Yanny/Laurel”: people see it differently. I love the salsa and chips, but they are not what you get elsewhere. The menu is simple. The food has its own character and has changed very little over time. Everything is fresh. The environment is very casual.

We came in and there was just a few minutes wait and we were seated. From that point to about 20 minutes later we were not given drinks, and my husband was given a menu and i was not. We had to ask for multiple item’s because they were not given to us (napkins salt straws etc). The waiter set more than one hot plate in front of my 18mo son who could have easily grabbed it and gotten hurt. We were not offered any refund for any of this

After talking with Frank Garcia (Long-time onwer) of The Mexican Kitchen today (06/30/2023), I discovered that this restaurant has been part of the Hub City for 50 years as of this year. Therefore, seeing that this family-owned restaurant has withstood the test of time to celebrate a semicentennial anniversary, I think that it’s a “must stop” for all tourists and visitors!!!

The food was okay. My waitress seemed like she was ready to go. The chips and salsa were a joke. I got my food and receipt at the same time and never saw my waitress again. For a place only open for 3 hours, you’d think the service would be better.

I got the small plate (which gave a sampling of choices) nachos, and guacamole. It was delicious!!! I think the tamale was my fav on the plate, but everything was flavorful, fresh, and good size portion. The staff is friendly and attentive to their patrons. Excellent all around.
