A Messob is a traditional Ethiopian breadbasket that is interchangeably used as a communal dinning table as well as an Injera storing utensil. The cultural way to Invite your friends to grab a bite. In the Amharic language, ENEBLA means let’s eat together.
When brothers Berhanu and Getahun took over Messob Ethiopian Restaurant, their vision was clear and simple: craft and serve the freshest and most flavorful Ethiopian cuisine that Angelinos could ask for.
Three decades after Messob first opened it’s doors in LA, their commitment still stands and holds true.
Today, Messob has grown into an institution in Little Ethiopia and has since been a favorite destination for the vegan community as well as foodies and tourists alike.
Guests eat with their hands at this casual spot featuring both traditional vegan & meat stews. Based on 927 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price $$

Visiting from Oakland. Made a stop here before heading to the airport. I’m from the Bay of Eritrean descent. It’s one thing to have a one of a kind architecture with simple yet sophisticated cultural references in a restaurant establishment. It’s another thing (and I admit the most important thing) to have quality food in its raw authenticity despite the audience/customers you’re catering to. Consistency, matters. The human interaction and customer service comes above all, for me. We (three of us: mother, and two sisters) came in, we’re accommodated as though we were royalty. The place was active. Camera crew were preparing the space and props for a video shoot of …. something. Crew of all kinds getting the set ready down to the make up artist and one person tending to clean shoes (it was a well oiled machine of a process to my admiration). I saw a glimpse of what production is like behind the scenes, so kudos to everyone dedicated to the industry. Because of this experience, I am proud of my culture. This place stands out because of how they make you feel through hospitality against all odds. Food was great. Honey wine for the Gods. An establishment that accommodates all. Food of quality and consistency. Human interaction through exceptional customer service that makes you hopeful it’s not going obsolete. Until next time, Xoxo

Long time in the making to go try Ethipian food. We decided to come here with family and friends. The vibe when you walk in was amazing. You really feel transported out of the US and into wonderful vibe that’s almost dreamll like. Our server was very nice and attentive. Everyone there look beautiful and food eating experience was second to none. There is something about eating your food with your hand and interacting with others. Felt primal and connecting with somwthing bigger than Ourselves. The food itself was ok, strong spices. I don’t think you go there for the food only but for the entire experience.

I didn’t have any expectations for dining here. I wanted to try Ethiopian cuisine. My impression of the restaurant I thought was charming but it didn’t feel inviting with the only waitress that served us. She didn’t seem to even want to explain any of the dishes, with it only being 2 tables with 4 of us in the restaurant. Maybe she was tired. Let her know it was our 1st time. Gave it 3 stars because my husband enjoyed the food and experience. For me, after she combined our meal and we were to eat it with our hands. It made me feel like I was eating scrapes and left overs. Definitely made me feel like I was having an African experience. Made me feel sad!

I love Ethiopian food, so this was a good try. There were many options in Little Ethiopia, but this was our pick and no regrets. It was nice and full, so the ambience was good. We got the 2-person platter with meat, but they also have a veg platter too.

I was really hoping this place was going to be worth it since it seems so expensive. I ordered the combination plate where i picked the 1) doro wat, #2, #12, and #13. Overall, amazing taste. I loved the taste. My only complaint is that they gave me 1 tiny piece of chicken for the doro wot, and two smaller pieces among other small pieces of lamb for the other meat dish i ordered which i didnt catch the name of. The plate was $36. Its a travesty and an insult how little meat they gave overall. I would have happily given this place 5 stars if they weren’t so selfish with meat portions. What a disappointment. Eat here at your wallets risk.

The food was really tasty. I got the lamb and really enjoyed the flavor. I got a few samosas and they were a little sweet for my personal liking but the way they were cooked was to perfection. The service wasn’t quick but the food was so tasty. It didn’t matter ♀️…. They have a little store that you can shop around in as you wait though with a lot of great things. I would advise ordering pickup which I did but I still had to wait so it’ll be prepared.
