We stopped in after the restaurant we had planned on going to was unexpectedly closed, just a few doors down. The building itself is intriguing so we stopped into Mel’s for a bite. The servers were so friendly, and although they were short staffed on a busy Saturday lunch, they greeted us and we had our drinks in no time. (And if you don’t have patience and understanding of what it’s like to be short staffed and busy at a restaurant, I suggest you put yourself in the workers positions before you even mutter a negative thought or review.) It took us a while to decide what to order because it all sounded good. We ordered Mel’s Mac appetizer with pulled pork, a cheddar bacon burger, and the Caesar salad wrap—we saw someone with it while walking in, and it looked very appetizing. None of the food was a disappointment! I wish I had thought to take photos before we ate several bites. The servers were very accommodating and provided me with extra pickles. That in itself merits automatic five stars. We live over an hour away, but we will return!

TLDR: I visited Mel’s on Madison and was impressed by their great customer service and delicious food made in-house. The prices are a bit high, but it’s worth it for the tasty meal and unique cheesecake flavors made by the owner’s daughter. Highly recommend a visit for a fantastic dining experience.

Great surprise! I had the Tri-tip salad with candied walnuts and balsamic vinaigrette. I tried an Avalanche amber ale that was delicious, too. Please don’t change a thing.

I should have gotten more pictures but the food was so awesome I got distracted eating! Great flavors! The food is fresh and amazing. And if you are a fan of Colorado Chiles you have an extra special treat! Actually met Mel tonight and was able to thank her! Highly recommend!!!!

The burgers are homemade, and the fries are fresh cut daily. We asked for extra crispy fries, and they delivered! If you love BBQ, this is the place. There are so many BBQ sauces, and they were all amazing! Try their mac & pulled pork appetizer and sample some BBQ sauces.

Hadn’t been here since the new owners opened and it’s so Much better than before. It’s got a nice vibe and the staff is super friendly and attentive. I tried the Mel’s Mac and Cheese which is topped with pulled pork. They have a good selection of bbq sauce that you can add. If you like sauce’s they’re available for purchase. They use the corkscrew pasta in the their Mac and cheese that really absorbs lots of the creamy cheese. Highly recommend it. Wife had basically the same thing but it’s in a wrap. But she got a side of potato salad with her meal. Oh, and FYI, they have an open bar with full service.

Allow me to set the scene… our small party of 5 and one other family in the restaurant( not busy at all). With that being said you would have thought the place was hopping by how long it took to get drinks. 45 minutes go by and 3 requests for the said drinks, finally had to track down someone else for drinks. Next the food comes out. Everyone’s sides were one the wrong plates, no worries easy fix, we just traded till we got that right. One persons food was meant to be a salad and a Mac and cheese came out instead, after waiting quite awhile for food, it was quite disappointing. The 2 of us that ordered cheeseburgers (at around $15 each) came out charred, dry as hell and bland and no condiments or toppings, meat, cheese, bun, that’s it. Our family had been there a few years back so we all decided to drive out to this place on good memories. Please don’t waste your time or money. If you’re wanting decent food you will not find it here.

Stopped in for a snack, we were impressed enough to get dinner to go too. Our server was friendly and competent. We really enjoyed everything we ordered. The sausage plate, mac & cheese, smoked wings, fries, coleslaw & a crazy good tri-tip dip sandwich.
