For many years I have been a faithful customer of 290 Cafe. During one of my trips there, my cajun friend talked me into trying Maxine’s Gumbo House, which shares the parking lot with 290 Cafe. I am very glad that I did, Maxine’s is great! So great, that I’ll never be back to 290 Cafe! The Stuffed Redfish is amazing, and very reasonably priced! It is basically Redfish Pontchartrain by another name. This redfish is better than the redfish on the coast! My son loves the fried catfish. Give Maxine’s a try on your next family outing, you’ll be very glad that you did!

Visited for the first time and found this restaurant by doing a google search while in the area. I started off with appetizers Cajun egg rolls and boudin balls. Having a creole background myself, I was very excited to try this food! The appetizers were tasty however with the boudin balls I would suggest to have a more seasoned rice before frying. (The food may be cooked from passed down recipes) so I totally understand maybe not wanting to change things up. The Cajun egg rolls were good but I just wasn’t getting that Cajun flavor I was hoping for. The chicken fried gator was ok again just missing the flavors I’m used to. The sweet tea is amazing! Red beans and rice had a bit of a sweet undertone to it but still good. I appreciate the good customer service! The zydeco playing in the restaurant definitely reminds me of my grandma!

We’ve been driving by since we moved to the area about a year ago. I wish we would have stopped in sooner. Everything we had was delicious. We had the poutin as an appetizer and loved it. I got the chicken and sausage gumbo and my partner got the seafood gumbo and the boudin balls (which are amazing!!). All great. We will definitely be back. A lot! Our waitress was Jennifer and she was delightful. Definitely stop in here if you’re craving some Cajun!

This place was so good and stepped up to make great food! But last few months me and my group of coworkers stopped coming due to lack of flavor! We have let them know but I just get an apology and nothing else! We tried 3 more times hoping it was just off days or different cook staff but all was the same …..if you don’t listen to your patrons how will you progress and keep them from leaving ? We gave up now! Today was final time for us !

We had an amazing fiest visit here. Our server Mandy greeted us with the biggest smile and made us feel very welcome as soon as we opened the door. We ordered the Cajun egg rolls as an appetizer which had a little kick to them, were cheesy and were stuffed perfectly. We also ordered the fried frog legs! It was my first time having them and I have to say they were so good! They give you the option to have them grilled, but Mandy suggested the fried. Did not disappoint! Entrees were Redfish stuffed with shrimp and crab stuffing topped with their signature cream. Also the Bayou pasta that had crayfish, gulf shrimp & andouille sausage simmered in a light spicy cream sauce with tomatoes, tossed with linguine pasta and topped with parmesan sauce.
