Good food but the ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! We called in our order for 2 Whiting dinners with mac and cheese and collards, the person who answered the phone could hardly hear me over the music. We were told they were out of collards so we asked for cabbage. We also ordered a pork chop dinner with green beans and mac and cheese and 2 side orders of yams. The person could not hear me to leave my name but said 20 minutes. When we arrived to pick up the food it was a short wait, imagine our confusion when we were told they didn’t have our order and we must have called the wrong location. I go back to the car, dial the last number I dialed on my phone and surprise, surprise guess who answers…the very location I’m sitting outside of. I was told the order was never placed because the ticket was lost, it may have fallen….I didn’t want to try to find another place so we placed our order again. This time I was asked did I want a roll or corn bread. Picked cornbread and was given free drinks for the inconvenience. Finally got our food and was told there was a surcharge for using a card. NOWHERE on their page does it state this! Once we checked the order in the car and noticed it wasn’t exactly right. Got 1/2 way home and realized there wasn’t any cornbread or rolls. Called the restaurant to be told there were out of all bread. When I asked why weren’t we told that, we were told that it was the end of the day and they often run out of stuff. When I explained to the young lady that we paid for a full meal and they should at least take 20 cents off when that happens, she responded with “That’s not what we’re going to do.” “The owner won’t give 20 percent off when we run out.” I explained that I didn’t ask for 20 PERCENT but 20 cents and told her this was our first time trying their restaurant and definitely the last time and that my review would reflect that. It’s honestly a shame because the food was pretty good, but I refuse to spend my money where I’m treated poorly. BTW we received 2 fish dinners 1 with collards and mac and cheese, 1 with yams and cabbage and 2 side orders of yams. The only correct order was the pork chop dinner and we were also charged the full price of a 3 wing dinner when all we ordered was just the 3 wings. What a disappointing mess of confusion.

Some of the best service at a soul food restaurant in Newport News. The first thing I saw the very first time I walked into Martin’s soul food was Marcus’s smiling face. He is pleasant, professional and friendly. Yall head on over to MARTIN’S SOUL FOOD and get some delicious comfort food. It is sooooo worth it.

Ordered my food ahead of time and was told 20 mins . First I had to wait because the person answered the phone and said Martins can you hold. After she finally returned to the phone I ordered and once I got there , there was a small line to wait in finally I got to the plastic window and gave my name. My food was already prepared and ready for pick up. I paid and left . The restaurant looked clean, but the customer service is very slow . The food was very tasty . Maybe it was worth the wait .

Food was not fresh you can tell by the hard dry texture of the meat, the dark breading, and how soggy the pork chops were that the food had been refrigerated and reheated next to no seasoning or flavor in the greens, yams were pretty good so I guess that’s where the one star would come from would not recommend martins is not what it use to be smh

Maybe because it’s “Soul Food” it’s extra salt seasonings added… not sure.. the cabbage was good the fried shrimp and Mac n cheese was very salty and couldn’t eat it. This is my second time here. 1st time got a order of 30 wings for a party & guest complained to me of too many feathers and didn’t eat them but I decided to try again..

Visit this place for lunch spent $12.80 on 4 hairy wings and the Mac and cheese appears to only have cheese on the top. They should be ashamed to call this soul food. They need to also have new menus as the price for lunch specials read $7.75. Unfortunately, I will not be returning or recommending, we don’t eat like this in Philly!

Food had no seasoning waste of $40.. I called them and told them about my order the lady told me she would give me half my money back.. soon as I get halfway there she called back and said the owner decided to give me nothing back.. terrible costumer service
