Don’t let the appearance deceive you! Possibly the best restaurant in the area. Sits 3 feet from docks. All meals are Maria’s own recipes & prepared from scratch. Everything was cooked to perfection. Everything was reasonably priced. Maria herself is a true gem. But be forewarned, come armed with patience. Food took about an hour to arrive but it was soooo worth it! Also she inly uses fresh ingredients so some offerings are gone by evening. Only downside was outdoor restrooms.

The best fried grouper you will ever eat. I know….I know… such an overused cliche HOWEVER in this instance it is absolutely correct. It’s a small place, limited parking, limited seating but worth the inconvenience. I’m going back this afternoon for lunch. Be sure to bring cash because Maria’s doesn’t take cards. In fact I saw a guy there who tried to pay with his card only to have to rely on his female companion to pony up the cash. I don’t think she was happy.

Disappointed in quality and quantity of food. Acceptable at best. Unique “hole in the wall” local atmosphere. Friendly and accommodating staff. I thought it was overpriced for quality and quantity of food.

Quality of food is excellent. Best Salmon Duval anywhere. Gumbo as good as anywhere in New Orleans. Enjoy the relaxed, no frills atmosphere. Maria is great.

Very bad, expensive. Friday night all you can eat. All out at 630 pm. No seafood gumbo, then no soup at all. 23 dollar for sampler that barely had any seafood on plate, snapper platter little piece of frozen fish. Ordered rice with my meal, she bring food and say no rice, we put. The whole meal was 65 dollars. 2.00 per bottle of water. She charge for water. Any way, my husband and I were so looking forward to this meal. We have time off work, locals, I here 27yrs my husband 10years. I will never go back there. She should’ve taken water off bill or some other food but not. On top of all this Maria only takes cash. Really horrible dinner. I will never tell anybody again to go to her restaurant.

Tried coming here while on vacation after a sail boat tour. The minute my sister and I walked in, we got creepy vibes. The A/C wasn’t turned on until we entered (the whole place was empty), the guy who was supposed to wait on us just rubbed me the wrong way for some reason, and it was cash only; you couldn’t use your credit/debit card if it was all you had. It was very dimly lit and the waiter shut both the open doors to the front and back of the restaurant after we entered, which made me and my sister uncomfortable; it felt like we were shut in. after we discovered the method of payment wasn’t in the realm of our possibility, we made the decision to just leave. overall, really creepy and would not recommend.

I drive an hour round-trip to pick up a few orders of Maria’s gumbo to go….hands down the best you will EVER have. I was torn on if I even wanted to write this review because I don’t want it to become so popular that when I want it, they are out of it, but amazing job with the gumbo again tonight Maria…it rocks!!
