Owned by Chef Eloise Garcia, the restaurant is named after a French commander’s horse, and one of his favorite post-victory meals, veal marengo.

We stopped in for desserts at the new spot in Tryon! They were absolutely delicious! Very friendly staff and attentive. Enjoyed a glass of champagne. Our kids loved the macrons and chocolate pyramid. My husband enjoyed the chocolate chip cannoli! Great place! Can’t wait to return to try lunch!

Very disappointed. Was looking forward to a new menu experience – we got there about noon on a weekday expecting lunch and tapas. We got a brunch menu, heavy on waffles and eggs, no vegetarian meal options. Soup of the Day was a spinach potato curry. While it had spicy aftertastes (and I love Indian spices) the overall flavor was very bland and flavorless. no potatoes. I was told the potatoes were pureed into the soup which is probably why it tasted diluted, like trying to stretch a soup to accommodate unexpected guests. My companion got the French onion soup and said her soup was flavorless also; the onions were not caramelized and the cheese was mozzarella and not gruyere. I also got the Traditional Omelet with bacon – ugh! couldn’t even finish it. The omelet was so overcooked and dry it had a crust. No cheese or anything else, not even the bacon incorporated into the omelet; the bacon was served on the side and it was far too undercooked, not one bit of it was crispy – took that home to my dog, he liked it. A couple tablespoons of home fried potatoes also way over cooked, like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long, long time. The omelet came with white bread texas toast (?) and a sauce cup with perhaps a teaspoon of “homemade” jam, not enough for two pieces of toast. Overall way too overpriced for quality or quantity. The only reason this review gets 2 stars rather than 1 was the service, which while not exceptional was yet the best thing about the experience. Won’t be returning or recommending this restaurant.

Out meandering for the day, we stopped for brunch. Service was good but seemed a little disorganized. I learned the tables are not numbered and servers were all over. Our server was very pleasant. Food and bar drinks arrived quickly.

Great place. I came in for tapas and they had a wonderful assortment of cocktails and wines which paired beautifully with the dishes (patatas bravas, grilled Spanish octopus, chicken skewers and escargot were my favorites) and would highly recommend. The atmosphere was welcoming and upbeat with young but punctual, friendly servers. The pricing was high but more than worth it. I will be returning.

LOVE this restaurant! Great atmosphere – outdoor seating, or indoor – lovely setting. The food was fresh, delicious with very generous portions! Scrumptious really. The crepes were amazing! I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal in such a beautiful town like Tryon. Excellent!!

On the menu there is Eggs Benedict and you have choices like ham, Brie and avocado or smoked salmon. They are both the same price. I asked for salmon instead of ham so I could have Brie and avocado. They refused. It’s the same price it’s no extra work to pick up a piece of cheese and avocado and put on a plate. This is unreal and about the worst PR move ever. I totally understand if you upgrade a protein from chicken to shrimp there is an up charge, that makes sense. But this does not. I was then told they could but they would charge me extra. I said for what? To use your hands to add something in a plate or to simply cook a different protein that costs the same? I declined based on principle. I had the waffles. When it was brought to me the server asked if I wanted syrup and butter. Isn’t that pretty standard? Then of course the butter was in little packets and was straight from a refrigerator so it would not melt and on cold waffle. Coffee was cold for all at the table and we asked for warm up and it was also cold. Then the server apologized that he did not see the burner was off. No offer to not charge for the cold coffee. It’s the little attention to details that make such a huge difference. Being a successful restaurant requires common sense, they appear to be out.
