Went with my husband last night and we really enjoyed it. Every bite was delicious! We had the grilled salmon with watermelon salad and the chicken and waffle. Everything had so much flavor and texture. To drink, we enjoyed a lychee martini and an espresso martini. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be coming back!

I had the opportunity to finally visit this restaurant after passing by several times while shopping at Whole Foods (which is just around the corner) with my college-bound twins. It was an early Father’s Day dinner. The food, in my opinion, was good and my son agreed. He even mentioned he would like to return. However, my daughter became emotional during dinner. So, she did not have much to say about the meal, except that she did not enjoy the deviled eggs. On the other hand, I personally enjoyed them. We had a great experience visiting the Red Rooster in Harlem a few years ago and it was evident that the neighborhood community fully supports the restaurant. Thus, for this place located in downtown Newark, it might take the additional support from the surrounding business community to make it a long lasting go-to spot in the area. Nonetheless, I plan to visit again in order to gain a better perspective on the overall experience.

The girls and I got together for food and drinks here. I been here a long time ago before and was looking forward to it. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and found my table. The place is super cute! We were served by Kioni, and she was great.

The best chicken ever! The shrimp and grits were bomb too. Place seems a little understaffed but everyone greeted us with a smile and a happy attitude. I highly recommend the drinks too.

I had lunch with my colleagues here yesterday. I was looking forward to the culinary experience because I did a review on Chef Marcus’s Red Rooster location in Miami last December that was not great, and was hoping that his restaurant in Newark would align with my initial high hopes.

Good not great, though want to honor that the restaurant was slammed. They had one server working the floor, though the host and bar tenders were all trying to carry the short staffed place by working together. I found them friendly and always willing to try to meet needs. Drinks were forgotten and our bill was much smaller because they couldn’t attend to the table fast enough. That said, I struggled with my high expectations of the food. The chop salad was a really beautiful arrangement of green leaf lettuce, chick peas, gran padano, and pomegranate. I liked it with a smidgen if the mustard dressing. The salmon was more generic. The mac and cheese was unique in that it felt like you wwere getting a corner, but the loads of cheese made it quite oily once you cracked the surface and it could have used a little seasoning. My favorite hands down was the oxtail, braised to melt in your mouth, full of meat, a very good portion.

The spicy rigatoni at Marcus B&P in Newark, NJ, was a flavor-packed delight. Cooked to perfection, the pasta had just the right texture, and the spicy sauce added a satisfying kick without overpowering the dish.

Came here for the first time in NYE and had a pretty good experience. Open kitchen layout is always a nice touch. Our server Keona was amazing and attentive. As for food, almost everything we ordered was great. The cornbread was delicous especially with the jam and honey. The short rib was perfectly cooked. The Brownie was decadent but not too sweet and the espresso gelato was a nice alternative to the typical vanilla. The NYE special was the only part of our meal that was a bit meh. It was basically the chicken and waffles but with a dash of caviar which would the only reason it was almost double the price of every other item on the menu. Unfortunately, the caviar, which I enjoy on crackers, was not a good pairing with fried chicken and jerk chicken. Wanted to love it but couldn’t. Definitely better to go with the regular chicken and waffles. Cheaper and less chaos on the taste buds. Other than that, lovely spot and service. Would definitely return.

Tried this place for lunch. Nice elegant spacious inside, but food is very expensive for its quality. We got the deviled egg which was decent. Ordered the waffle and chicken for entree. Waffle tasted great, it had a hot honey layer on it, making it sweeter. The chicken was deep fried, not to my liking but I was okay with it. It is a huge plate to finish.

Jerked cauliflower was underwhelming — presented as a whole roasted head, which was difficult to cut with the butter knife, seemed undercooked yet charred to black in some parts, sauce was decent but barely “mild” jerk flavor, and the accompanying curried chickpeas could have been instant potatoes for all the flavor detected.
