Mama’s Fish House Menu – Paia, HI

Type : Restaurant

Location : Paia, HI

A family owned restaurant since 1973. Featuring Hawaiian fish brought to us daily by our fishermen.

Every day our fishermen go out in small boats to catch a variety of fish for us: multi-colored Mahi-mahi and tropical Ono, caught near our buoys 30 miles offshore. Reef-feeding bottom fish like Opakapaka, Onaga, Lehi and Uku, caught at depths of 2000 feet and slowly brought to the surface; fighting Ahi caught far out at sea with fast boats trolling lures; Papio from the lagoons near shore; Moi from the fish ponds.

Fishermen bring the fish directly to us. We process and serve it within 24 hours. Our daily menu lists the name of the fisherman and where they caught their fish.

Local landmark wins fans with its seafood-driven Hawaiian menu, Polynesian decor & epic ocean views. Based on 8 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price $$$$

The service and atmosphere was top notch, especially the sunset views. They even had a welcome note with birthday greetings for my wife when we arrived at the table and brought a small cake which was so sweet of them. However the food was good not great and not worth all the hype it gets, but disclaimer this is coming from a person who does not like seafood. Even if you are not able to get a reservation here on your trip to Maui it’s fine. It’s definitely a spot to go if you’re celebrating something.

Everything about this place lives up to the hype. The food, the service, the views, the atmosphere were all amazing. They started us off with a crimini mushroom soup which was delicious. For appetizers we ordered the won ton shrimp. It was very good. There were 4 good sized shrimp with a dipping sauce. I had the Arugula greens salad which was rather large (I ended up sharing it) and had a great flavor although I can’t remember seeing any dragon fruit in it (maybe in dressing). My husband and I both had the short rib with lobster. I don’t normally eat lobster but it was tender and delicious. The short rib was melt in your mouth succulent with a somewhat sweet sauce that was good on the potatoes and the lobster as well. The restaurant is open air style and the view from where we were seated was breathtaking. The server was extremely knowledgeable on everything on the menu and was very helpful with persons in our party who had dietary restrictions with offering suggestions as well as making accommodations. After we ate we walked down to the waters edge where we saw turtles swimming and coming ashore. Yes, it’s a splurge to eat here but one that is definitely worth it.

To be clear, I usually write about a restaurant being vegan or plant-based friendly. But today I am writing about what you might do if you were with a large family group at one of the best seafood restaurants on Maui. In my case, I chose to drop the health concerns, animal rights and enjoy some of the seafood I liked to eat years ago.

Definitely recommend! Lives up to the hype! Made my reservation six months in advance, and the only opening they had was for lunch (not dinner). No walk ins! It’s beautiful, on the water. They inside decor is great. Staff is really great, very personal and great w our kids, though it took a while to get food. Definitely recommend the chocolate pearl dessert. I really liked my seafood bouillabaisse. My sister really liked her curry dish. My brother in law thought his fish was a little overcooked though… The kids enjoyed the blue drink. Fyi They had valet parking.

Every now and then we like splurge on a nice dinner with some quality cocktails. When family and coworkers heard our travel plans, Mama’s Fish House was their top recommendation for a great evening out. From arrival to departure, our experience was fantastic. Our server was awesome. Super friendly, polite and very efficient despite also attending to 2 large tables. The food was well presented and very very delicious. The octopus was some of the best I’ve ever eaten and the bouillabaisse was on point. Next time we plan to travel back to Maui, we’ll be making a reservation for Mama’s Fish House.

I had an incredible dining experience at this restaurant, despite not having reservations and being seated at the bar. The standout dishes for us were the Mango Chilly Cold Soup, which provided a refreshing explosion of flavors, and the Papaya Grilled Steak, which perfectly balanced savory and sweet elements. The impeccable service, knowledgeable bartenders, inviting ambiance, and a diverse menu made our visit truly extraordinary. Every dish we tried was exceptional, and the overall experience surpassed our highest expectations.

Beautiful place and atmosphere! Service with a warm generous smile! Excellent scenery! The food options are very expensive! The lobster was not tasty at all! The shirt rib was excellent, but nothing short of what I make in a crock pot. Desert was really good. Way too expensive! If you are okay with $100 a head, with no drinks, $22 per drink, $32 for the kids meal… Go for it!

This is the place for service and restaurant atmosphere. The food is good, but not quite worth the hype. Overall, still a fantastic meal. A small note, we were told that if you don’t have a reservation, you might be able to get a table if you call the day before you are trying to go (that’s when the restaurant calls guests with reservations to confirm and there could be cancellations).

My husband and I had to try Mama’s to see what the hype was all about. We were impressed! I called for a reservation and was on hold for over 30 minutes before someone answered. Luckily they had a spot for us for dinner. For an app, we got the shrimp wontons and loved them! The short rib was delicious and tender. The lobster was amazing too. Best dinner we had on the island all week. We celebrated our anniversary, so we were given a dessert as well. It was expensive, but worth it. Very nice place & the service is great. The area where the restaurant is is so beautiful. We would love to come back again!
