From a simple thoughts of treasuring family tradition and inspired by street food under one roof.
Makan literally means eat. So Makanmakan means eat in plural. Or big eating/feasting. Being grew up in Asia (Indonesia in particular), eating out in a street was and is still way of life. We love to visit the center of city where the hustle and bustle happening. It’s a fun way to search great food in Tokyo alley, trying out best dishes among Hawkers center in Singapore, staying late night eating street food in Hongkong, Jogjakarta or Bali or Jakarta or Surabaya and so on.
At Makanmakan, we want to bring these fond memories. Hopefully we can capture and share these experiences with our guest. Until then, selamat makan (happy eating)!

I’ve been dying to try this place and it did not disappoint! I love that they have street food dishes from different parts of Asia.

This food was so yummy! The Laksa was so flavorful and filling! We also ordered the spring rolls and a glass noodle dish with chicken and shrimp (I can’t remember the name). Both were good! We got seated right away it being a weekday during lunch time. Staff was very efficient.

Hands down one of the best and authentic Indonesian restaurants I’ve ever tried in the US. The cooks are just so talented and you can tell the love in their food. I was on a road trip from Portland, OR to Nashville, TN and it was a right choice to stop by SLC and try this place out. I was wondering why there’s an Indonesian restaurant in Utah where I don’t think has that many Indonesian population. However, all in all this place is amazing recommended by an Indonesian. Ohh one more thing price to portion is incredible you can feed the whole family with just one or two dish. We had 6 different dishes and it only costs around eighty bucks.

Makanmakan is so good! Literally every item we ordered at the table was great. From firecracker basil chicken, to the beef shortrib, to fish curry, and definitely to the Thai iced tea. We ordered some roti, and ended up ordering 2 more orders of it because of how good it was!! I can’t believe I waited so long to come here. Will definitely be back.

We decided to take out after we arrived to this location. It just didn’t seem that inviting a place to stay and dine. They had some decorations as you can see in some of the pictures. The service was good. We ordered the Ayam Bakar gluten free. When we got it home, we figured out that gluten free meant we didn’t get any dark sweet soy sauce mentioned in the description. Without the sauce, some of the chicken tasted a little dry. The single order portion was generous enough to feed the two of us. The menu has a lot to offer. So take my one item order for what it’s worth- just one item. We wish the communication would have been better.

My husband ordered through Grub Hub to use credit on his account. We were at the restaurant, because we don’t like our food delivered. Anyway, I need to eat gluten free and a menu posted on Google reviews had gluten free options. We ordered the Ayam Bakar, which is chicken cooked with a dark sweet soy sauce. We were told at first that it couldn’t be made gluten free, then was told it could. It was tender and well-cooked, but flavor was missing. No soy sauce flavor. Probably because their soy sauce had gluten. I wish I had been told this, I would have ordered something else! Good portion size, I shared with my husband. Beware menus that mention gluten free options.

I have been coming here for years and I absolutely adore their food. Indonesian food is a rarity and theirs is excellent! If you’re feeling adventurous, try the goat! It’s a mild meat that’s so tasty.

This place has an excellent blend of east Asian cuisines. Large portions, good quality and just overall great food. Each dish is rich in spices and ingredients so if you like plain food this is not the place for you. Highly recommend!

I wanted to give this 4 stars. I liked the food enough, my main issue is I got everything for takeout. By the time I got home it was not good. I got spinach, wings and chicken skewers.
