Got here not long after they opened. Some of the food was cold. Catfish was good. Vegetables a little on the bland side. But the staff was very nice and welcoming. Felt almost right at home the minute I walked in.

First impressions is everything when it comes to eating in a establishment. My wife and i walked in for lunch and it looked like a run down place, food without no lids. We decided not to eat there and possibly getting sick. So we went some where else.

I’ve eaten here several times for lunch and recently tried breakfast for the 1st time. Lunch is very good, reasonable price. Some of the best fried chicken and fish I’ve ever had. Breakfast was not so favorable. Bacon was burnt, they kept running out of eggs, biscuits were microwaved and just not very good. Then there’s the price. 45 bucks for 2 adults and a child. To much money for what you get.

I have ate there a number of times for all 3 meals..And I enjoyed it..The food was good and the people were friendly and polite..I had no complaints at all..I think it’s great that it’s ran by a family and they all work together..And to the ones that had or will have bad reviews Altavista is a small town and we have had stores and restaurants closing here since the Covid..We are very lucky to have “Main Street Buffet”…So if you are looking for a high end place to eat maybe you should go to Lyñchburg or Danville…

Would of given 4.5 stars because I thought the price was a little high for what you get. Food was very good but the banana bread was absolutely delicious. Cost per person was about $15 including the drink.
