The food was amazing and the wait staff is pretty good as well. It’s a formal dining place and the atmosphere shows it. I think the service was dressed nicer than we were. The only problem is that the kitchen Cooks for multiple rooms and not just the one dining area that you are sat in and so it takes awhile to get your food. But once you get it, it’s so worth it. Very fresh and well cooked.

Hostess seated us quickly w/o reservations (thank you) she was friendly and our server, Charlie was fantastic. He answered all our questions and was very accommodating during our meal! I had the rainbow trout and it was A-mazing! Delicious & perfectly cooked. My baked potato was a little dry but it wasn’t the end of the world. Hubby had the rigatoni and that was good as well. Love the atmosphere here in the Strader Hotel! It’s magical ♀️ Prices are reasonable given the area and you won’t leave disappointed. The portions are perfect!

Staff is very professional and the ambience is calm and very low noise level. You can actually talk to your dining companion. This Elk was absolutely amazing. Tender, so full of flavor. This is just 1/2 portion as I split it with my friend. Just amazing.

There was a day, long, long ago, when the Mahogany Grill was an institution in Durango, CO; it was the apex predator of dining in Durango. And from a service perspective, it is still top tier. Katie’s service was second to none. But the food, alas, was not. No bacon on the over-dressed ceaser. And the French onion soup was tragedy personified – over-peppered, no crostini, only sadness. The steaks – the former luxurious pepper steak Herbert and and a costly prime rib – were ordered medium rare, but came out a tragically tasteless and well done. They were savage, over-gristled and heart breaking.

The service was fantastic, the atmosphere is great. The food and drinks were not up to my expectations. I was disappointed with the quality of food and plating. The drinks were not very good either, you can get better food and drinks in Durango. To top it off we both had stomach aches later that evening. My wife threw up and decided to not eat the leftovers after that.

My wife and I visit Mahogany Grill a few times a year, and it’s always been a great dining experience. This time, after the pandemic, the service and atmosphere are still great, but the food was not up to previous standards. Today, my wife wanted soup and salad – but today’s ONLY soup was Watermelon Gazpacho Soup; What is that? No thanks! So she ordered the Gorgonzola Salad and a side of “Loaded” Herbed Mashed Potatoes. I ordered the Calamari Appetizer and the Cioppino entree, both of which I’ve enjoyed before. Well, the “loaded” potatoes were mashed potatoes with scallions and herbs, and the “loaded” $2 extra was diced tomato, sprinkles of shredded cheese, and scallions – but my wife expected cheese, bacon and sour cream (our usual expectation of “loaded” potatoes). My calamari pieces were very rubbery – obviously grossly overcooked – the waitress didn’t charge me for them, with an apology that some of the cooking staff were new. My Cioppino was very tasty, but 2 clam and mussel shells had not opened – not something to be served at an upscale restaurant. Again, the waitress apologized. The wine list was very good, as usual. We shared a chocolate tart dessert, and we agreed that the chocolate filling was very good, but the tart shell tasted like a pre-frozen supermarket pastry shell. We are sorry the Mahogany Grill has suffered from the pandemic, but we encourage them to find more qualified chefs.

Great experience at this restaurant, The place it’s attached to the Strater Hotel, very convenient if you are staying there. Service was very attentive . We had two specialty drinks and were delicious and well prepared. Calamari and “Adult Candy” were a great way to start. My wife had the mussels, a bit spicier than expected but a lot of flavors. Clam chowder is fantastic. I ordered the Elk tenderloin, just amazing, temperature was on point. Cake carrot was a good finale. Great selection of drinks and wine!

The only redeeming thing about our meal last night was our server. We waited 90 minutes for the four of us to be served, two of us ordered a salad, one person ordered pasta, and another person ordered a steak (with that time I could’ve made it myself). once we had the food, none of us were impressed, some of our dishes were cold, and my salmon for my salad was over cooked. We spent $180 only to be disappointed.
