The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees.
Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College.
The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such as the Macado’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party and the Macado’s Halloween Party. Loyal customers have made Macado’s part of their own traditions as well!

I want to say a big thank you to the waitstaff that we had Friday night. I didn’t get our eaters name but he was young, glasses and about 5’6″. Also, to the bartender (blond with dimples, ” you guys were amazing and attentive. We were the couple sitting at the bar taking shots. Food is great not much atmosphere unless you like figuring out the old pictures on the wall. Food is always amazing we have had many thing here and they have always been top notch. Was a little shocked that our soft pretzels were only partially soft but the amazing cheese sauce made up for that.

It was a sports bar which is fine however there was a smell when we walked in, I figured it was something someone ordered. The wait staff were a bit dishelved making you feel it isn’t the best at cleanliness. I ordered a salad the menu said there were black beans in it, I received a salad with no black beans. Small amount of meat in my husband’s sandwich. Our waiter was extremely slow and held up his hand to have us wait so he could follow a blond patron out the door. We are pretty easy going but this was a place we will not recommend or return to.

So many sandwich options!! The staff does an amazing job even though they are still short on staff they have you food and drinks to you super fast and never miss a beat! Yes you may have to wait to be seated but they are so friendly and for being worked as hard as they are they deserve customers who are friendly right back! I think everyone in Macados is doing a wonderful job!! Great food Great service Great job!

We just got back from here after placing an online order for pickup. The woman who was at the host stand had a nasty attitude for no reason. If the website tells us a time to come pick our food up then that is what time will come to pick our food up.

It’s a fine place if you have a couple hours to kill before actually getting your food. The GM will delete negative comments on their Facebook posts and turned off the ability to leave a review on their FB page which should be red flag #1. The service is absolutely horrendous. They don’t care about it and it shows. We’ve been three times and each time it took over 10 minutes just to be seated. We won’t go again. I have no clue how this place stays in business.

Service was so slow, but it was their first week open. We had the fish tacos and chicken tacos, pretty tasty and decent portion. Fries were pretty good too. Sweet tea had no sweet even after another was ordered. Inside is decorated pretty cool. Once they work the kinks out it will be a great place. Menu is huge- can be a bit overwhelming to look at.

Really delicious food! Wonderfully eclectic atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Also right on the Old Town Winchester walking mall, so it’s really convenient. They got the slightly fussy orders of my 5 kids right… And even I have trouble with that. 🙂

The bartender was terrible.. we ordered a couple of mich. ultras.. bartender stated they were out.. a little while later she stocked the coolers with much ultra, so again we ordered a couple of ultras, she once again said they were out.,so we told her we can see the ultras, and she finally served them to us.. It was the 4 th of July and she just wanted to get out of work.. It kind of spoiled our vacation to Lexington.. terrible bartender..
