At 11 pm on Bourbon Street after traveling all day and just wanting something to eat, a Lucky Dog looks like a good idea…but I was SO wrong. The vendor was very amiable, and I have no complaints there at all. However, I got so…SO sick. I came very close to going to the ER. It has been years since something has made me that ill. Don’t eat a Lucky Dog from the street vendors. It’s really not lucky.

If you’ve had too much to drink, are running low on cash, and want some cheap food, these hot dogs aren’t bad. They’re not really good, but not bad. You’ll find these carts at various street corners along Bourbon St. Just after sunset you’ll start to see them here and there and they appear abandoned. After about 9pm, you’ll start to see people buying hotdogs. As the night progresses, small lines will start to form. I haven’t witnessed any of the horror stories I’ve seen in other reviews, but I don’t doubt them either. You get what you pay for, so don’t have high expectations.

If your In the mood for a real good hot dog lucky dog is not the place to go it doesn’t have great taste , it stinks , and it’s fresh out the hot dog water , but if your feeling good off the liquor late at night I guest it won’t phase you … but your LUCKY if you live !

Born and raised in New Orleans and have eaten Lucky Dogs since the 70s. Over the years 2 things have changed, price and size. Price is insane for a hot dog, and the size keeps getting bigger. I just want a hot dog, not a hot log!

Tried getting 2 hotdogs for a friend and I, hot dogs were cold and buns were cold. He asked If I wanted mustard and/or condiments. I said Yes. He literally put one line of mustard and he said, “tell me when.” I said, “just a bit more please.” He told me, “that’s gonna be an extra dollar “*N-word*.” Oof I was disgusted. I payed him for those 2 lack of a hot dog. That was disgusting and I mean the service and the food. Yuck

They handed me a hot dog and it accidentally fell onto the ground! So I left the stand with no food and no money back at all because the man handling the food insisted to the cashier not to! This happened a while ago but it still makes my blood boil till this day. I’ve dealt with a lot but whoever runs the one near Bourbon St. needs to reevaluate their position in customer service/satisfaction. If you decide to get something from here, make sure you hold onto your food very tight because they will NOT give you another serving and will ultimately steal your money, ruin your entire night/smirk at you while you’re distressed and confused. Weirdest experience of my life.

Horrible experience with the Lucky Dog on Decatur. My son’s hot dog bun had mold on it, so we got a replacement. I should have just thrown it all away, but tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. It can happen, right? Well a few more bites into my lucky dog, and I realize there are maggots crawling in my ketchup. We got our money back, but that’s hardly the point. And as I’m on the corner crying and trying to hurl into the bushes, the dude is still selling hot dogs to everyone that comes up.

I now live in Florida. I used to work on Bourbon St. and I miss lucky dogs! I always got one before my shift. Long and juicy! A meal in a bag. Oh! You wonder…a bag? Well, I was treated special, most of the chefs, 🙂 who fixed my lucky dog, put mine in the bag that held all the buns. Cook said he didn’t need it any more because the rest of the buns, were being toasted. I guess I was the real lucky dog! 😉 New Orleans New Years, Lucky Dog time!

I gave this review 5 stars because the hot dog was awesome. I would rate the service and attitude of the vendor in the New Orleans international airport a negative rating or nothing at all. She did not have her act together and hundreds of excuses as to why the service wasn’t ready to serve at 8:00 am. She even went as far to tell us that LUCKY DOGS don’t really open till 8:30 when there was a sign 3 feet away that clearly shown 8:00am. Personally if she worked for my company, she would be doing something other then working with costumers.
