About Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati’s is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor.
Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940’s working in Chicago’s first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago’s best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday.

Maybe it was played up too much. I expected better. We ordered a large Chicago deep dish and a large thin crust. The deep dish was the Lou special, it tasted great with sausage, cheese, and sauce but it was mostly crust. It was crunchy on the bottom but doughy up top. We ordered 4 toppings for the thin crust: mushroom, sausage, green pepper, and black olive. The thin had no taste. I had to add salt just to make it at all palatable. $75 for 2 disappointing pizzas? I’ll do Giordanos Or Gino’s East, thank you very much.

The pasta we ordered was fantastic! The pizza was alright, nothing too special. I do not recommend getting either of the deserts though, they both had a puddle of liquid in the bottom and were incredibly mushy. Could tell that they had been frozen and paying $9 each is a complete ripoff.

We ordered a large thin crust veggie pizza. It was very expensive for a 14″ pizza and it was tasteless. I didn’t taste any sauce, but did see a few canned tomatoes under the cheese. Crust was pretty good. Wouldn’t order again.

We got a large pepperoni pizza, family sized salad, and cheese bread. 15.99 for a pre-bagged salad from the grocery store with onions and tomatoes added. But it was an old bagged salad. Everything else was good, just wish they never served me this.

We called to make an order for delivery. After getting off the phone I said that was the nicest person to take a pizza order ever! It was such a pleasant experience after a long day of moving. The delivery guy was just as kind!

Decided to try a new pizza place in the area. Ordered a deep dish pizza with sausage, green pepper and onion. We also ordered the cookies as well. Overall, I feel this place is a hard pass. The pizza could be summed up in one word and that would be… bland. Sauce, and the pizza overall, lacked any seasoning and tasted like crushed tomatoes straight out of the can. There was a solid layer of sausage across the entire crust, but there was almost no cheese, sauce or toppings. It gave the impression they were trying to save money by shorting the toppings. Vegetables were crunchy and raw. The crust was good, but not enough to save an unseasoned and empty “deep dish” pizza. In regards to the cookies, they tasted old and were hard as rocks. I don’t think we will be returning customers, unfortunately. There are better options in the area that have more flavor at lower price point.

Carry out only from what I could tell. Delicious, but don’t hire me to transport as mine didn’t make it home so well which forced me rearrange the toppings and rewarm on my Pizza Pizzazz (4 mins lower plus 8 mins dual)

This is great Chicago style stuffed pizza. Too much time away will remind you what you’re missing. Wisconsin is lucky to have some Lou Malnati’s pizza. Milwaukee pizza is still a superior style in my opinion…but when Balistreri’s is closed till supper, and you can’t wait…Grab some stuffed za with your favorite meat, cheese, and veggies, and ask for extra sauce. .

I wouldn’t consider it deep dish pizza but it is good pizza. On the very pricy end. Good ingredients, good flavor.
