About Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati’s is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor.
Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940’s working in Chicago’s first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago’s best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday.

Wanted to try this place because we wanted a custom deep dish, and it definitely didnt disappoint! We did have to wait a little bit for our order but the pizza was awesome. For $25, we got a medium deep dish (6 giant pieces) with extra cheese, buttercrust, and garlic. It was definitely worth the price and I would highly recommend stopping by. One thing to know is that Lou’s DOES NOT have any seating so you’ll have to take the pizza home.

I can’t remember the last time I experienced this wonderful level of customer service. My husband placed an online order early in the day that I planned on picking up at 4:45 for our family dinner. When I went in to get it, the employees couldn’t find our name for pickup. I called my husband to have him double check it in detail and we realized because he was in Chicago when he placed the order, the time change had our order showing for an hour later than we planned (5:45.) The employees and manager apologized for the mishap (even though they did nothing wrong!) and immediately started prepping our order. They even offered my sons free cookies and drinks to tide us over while we waited! Thank you Lou crew! You’ve made some life time customers here and of course, the pizza was phenomenal too! Highly recommend.

This was the worst Chicago deep dish I’ve ever had. The crust was hard as a rock and the top had cheese burns somehow due to the sauce not being on it in some parts.

A large pizza will feed an army! Defiantly the best deep dish I have ever had. I had their thin crust in Chicago, was also very good.

I came in from out of town. I think I ordered wrong. I got the pepperoni, mushroom, sausage. The sausage was like a giant layer of sausage patty under the sauce. Wasn’t good but I was starving so I ate it anyway. I guess don’t get the sausage or maybe try the sausage pieces?

It was like they dumped a full cup of grease on the top of my pizza. It was if the pizza served as a kitty pool for grease, sauce, and a serious lack of toppings. I love Chicago style, but this place just cannot pull it off with a respectable product.

Ordered a thin crust and a deep dish for delivery. The instructions were to please knock or send a text when they get there. Delivery driver literally banged on the door like they were the cops then took off. Just left the pizza on the door step but we grabbed it less than 30 seconds later. We made sure to leave a good tip because that’s fair and this still happened. The deep dish was sauce and cheese slapped on cardboard. Honestly this was definitely the worst pizza I’ve had in several years or maybe even my entire life but the thin crust was fine. For a total of $70 with tip for two large pizzas I’m not even slightly impressed.

Wasn’t terrible. But pizza was super wet and soggy. Box was soaked when we got home (7min away). Ordered the deep dish. Imagine bruschetta on top of thick crust with a small thin layer of cheese. Ingredients tasted fresh but the pizza wasn’t something we’d try again. For $80 for just 2 pizzas, we will try other places.

Even though they gave my pizza to someone else and I had to wait for another one, it’s still worth it. They gave me a slice of the pie that was supposed to be for the person that got mine while I waited another 30 minutes. They also offered me drinks but I declined. Should have gotten some discount or a coupon for next visit but I didn’t.

It’s not bad, but not worth a two hour wait (that’s what we had). Pizza was mostly crust (thick bottom) instead of toppings. The salad dressing was poorly packed (plastic souffle cup and lid) and opened on the way home, spilling all over the bag. The wings were very good. Meaty with nice sauce. The Cannoli Dip was a good and fun dessert.
