Lola at the National Exchange Hotel is a revelation. I’ve been to my fair share of great restaurants, but this is one of the few that has truly blown me away.

Went there for Mother’s Day the food was superb. My wife and son both got 2 entrees, which were amazing, as was mine. One was French toast done in a way that was just unique. My hash was also over the top. Staff were harried of course but service was plenty good enough. I really appreciate how easy it was to make the reservation online. More recently I went to the bar and was insulted by the saddest whisky sour I had ever encountered or even heard of, small, flat, tasteless, 14 bucks. The bartender should have paid me to dispose of the thing. I also prefer the old, semi-decayed, impossible to guess the last time work was done decor. The new look is plain, bloodless, uninteresting, it has no connection to gold rush history that I can see. If I ever order a drink from that bar again, it will be a bottle of beer. That way, no surprises.

I loved Lola so much I went twice while in Penn Valley (dinner and brunch!). The service is warm, courteous, friendly and quick. The food menu is diverse and delicious. Would highly recommend for any and all meals!

We had the worst service and dining experience we have ever had at this restaurant and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. The waitress was truly atrocious, forgot our drink orders and when we asked about them after 30 minutes, she told us ‘yeah yeah they’re coming.’ Then, 10 minutes later she returned to tell us the order never “got in” — no responsibility taken nor apology, let alone an attempt to rectify it. The recommendations she made menu-wise were awful, and for VERY OVERPRICED food this is simply unacceptable. Throughout our meal the service was truly the worst service I have ever experienced or witnessed. I contacted the restaurant to speak with a manager, left a message and never got a call back. I submitted an online inquiry and same–no response. I will never go to this restaurant ever again and recommend that you don’t either!

Had the five course valentine’s day meal and it was phenomenal . Every course was impeccable. The presentation, the taste everything. Service was great and kind. Great atmosphere, music that’s not too loud where you can hear it and have a conversation. The interior is gorgeous. Will definitely visit again for regular dining days. Found my new favorite wine here as well.

Huge disappointment! Usually I get the pork loin but this time they changed the menu, they still had the pork loin but it wasn’t the same! No sweet potatoes and it was so salty it was hard to eat!!! I tried to eat it but gave a lot away. Won’t order that again! It came with so called “apple slaw” .. where was the Apple?! Just tasted onion! Yuck! It also came with cooked cabbage. Our guest visiting from out of town wanted the beef checks, my husband had raaved about them! Beef checks are no more.. Anyway, needless to say not a favorite restaurant anymore!

Have been here many times. I love having a cocktail in the bar and sharing an appetizer with friends. The staff is great! Nicole and Pascal are my favorites but every server there is great and every visit has been memorable.

Our group of 4 had a good walk in experience for a busy Thursday night. We ordered all of the small plates, clam chowder, brussel sprouts, focaccia and green beans. Wow clam chowder was hearty and delicious. And yep, no bacon for us pesty pescetarians. My husband enjoyed the pork chops. It was a huge serving. The only dish that did not appeal to us was the burrata cheese with pomegranate, pistachio and persimmons. It was hmmm not good. The hard texture of the raw large slices of persimmon overwhelmed the soft burrata.
