For over 60 years I’ve been eating at the little gem restaurant. It may of been named different years ago but the rich history of the park and the land come centered at this restaurant. They close between 2 pm and 4 pm during the summer to my dismay because I had been in the drivers seat all day driving and my room wasn’t ready yet so we went up to eat while we waited. The lodge manager offered to have us some take out food and that was a great gesture. We decided to wait till 4 pm. The fried biscuits and apple butter have been reduced in size but the quality of fresh fried dough smothered in brown sugar and cinnamon are better now than ever before. The rich dark oven baked apple butter cannot be beat anywhere in the world. Since Covid they haven’t had a buffet for lunch or dinner but still have a salad bar and soup bar. Both are able to be added to a meal for $7. The breaded tenderloin is a fresh chunk of loin pounded and hand breaded. The grilled chicken platter is a great option and the chicken is seasoned well and moist and juicy. Overall the service is wonderful and the food great. I’m looking forward to many years to come eat here.

So this Little Gem restaurant is the pride of Abe Lincoln Lodge, in my opinion. We arrived on a Saturday night around 8 pm, and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all, which we were told was unusual. It’s probably a good thing because i had a whole episode where I didn’t feel well right after we arrived and thought I was going to pass out. Our waitress, Heather, I believe, was so incredibly sweet and helpful. She brought me some bread and Pepsi thinking maybe my sugar had dropped. After about 15 minutes or so, I started feeling better, and we were able to order. Our food came out fast and was delicious! I got the country fried steak, and it was some of the best I’ve had! It was a very pleasant dining experience and we really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and staff! Kudos to the waitress for being so concerned and helping me quickly. Her kindness went a long way with me!

Went there for lunch today, huge mistake. Not many customers but still took several minutes to be acknowledged, and even longer to get seated. Servers seemed to only be interested in the local customers and state park workers. Watched non servers walk in and out of the kitchen to help themselves. The chicken strips that I ordered were cold, and clearly made much earlier in the day or last night. The special of the day my wife ordered was lukewarm at best. Extremely disappointing, as the food and service were equally bad. Fought myself to leave any tip amount, but did. We’ll never return and upon leaving asked the state park employee at the entrance gate to forewarn park visitors to avoid the Little Gem at any cost.

First night, we were impressed with the wait staff, but not so impressed with the food. The only redeeming item was the pork tenderloin. We had our dog with us and we were allowed to sit out on the patio, which was pretty neat.

Really slow service. REALLY slow. The table we sat at was dirty, as were all the other around even though hardly anyone was there. Waited almost an hour for a burger and what was supposed to be chicken noodle soup but was actually chicken and dumplings. Food was sub-par. Next time we’ll pack lunch or leave the park to eat. Nobody updated us on how long it would take or asked us if we wanted drink refills until after we got our food, and that was only once. Really not great.

I visited here after walk around No.2 trail. The lunch was perfect. It was cozy and served a delicious meal. If you were here, you’d better come and enjoy.

The Little Gem offes beer and wine, so we asked for a wine list from our waitress. We ordered a bottle of Brown County Winery blackberry, but our waitress came back and said there was no one in the restaurant who was licensed to serve us wine. Why would it be offered then? The reason we had decided to eat there was because I wanted a piece of Indiana Sugar Cream Pie, but they had neither of the deserts my spouse and I ordered. My children ordered food to take back to their hotel room. They waited for over an hour and were missing several items, so had to return to the restaurant where other customers were waiting with the same issues. The food was prepared well, but definitely not the service I had received in years past.

Great breakfast with plenty of choices! Only negative is that we did not enjoy the fried biscuits as much as at other places in the area. They are good, but seemed a little overdone.

The space is cozy and the decor is nice. The food was fine, but not worth the prices they’re charging. The waitress was trying her best, but for some reason she seemed to be the only one charged with servicing all 20 tables so service was very slow. Overall I wouldn’t recommend eating dinner here unless you’re staying at the lodge and don’t want to drive to somewhere nearby

It was all amazing and the customer service was also too good. And the food is one of the best I have ever had.
