This restaurant never disappoints. I have been coming here as a loyal customer for a few years now and decided it was time to finally write a review. For starters the building that La Sponda is in is absolutely beautiful with exposed brick and big windows in the back of the restaurant. Everything about this place is so inviting. After water is brought over bread and oil are served. My party and I started off the with calamari which was delicious and came out quite quick after we placed our order. For my entree I had the campanelli vodka which was the die for. The portion wasn’t too big or to small and I didn’t feel like I was super stuffed when finished with the dish. for dessert I choose the lemon cake which was super moist and an espresso that was surprisingly very good. I highly recommend this spot for a family dinner or even date night.

The first time we were here we sat outside by the creek. Great patio location to dine and enjoy the outdoors while viewing the stream nearby. The second time we dined inside. Huge indoor space with many table options and a bar. The service we received was friendly. The guy even remembered us from the first time. We enjoyed our meals and the server was very attentive to my daughter’s allergies since she also have allergies. I enjoyed my Chicken and Crab dish. Chicken Parmesan dish was satisfying for my daughter. Overall we all enjoyed the experience. It’s a nice addition to the Downingtown downtown restaurants offering.

A great dining experience awaits at La Sponda, a wonderful Italian restaurant set inside a 200 year old paper mill in Downingtown. The food, service, and atmosphere is top notch. And sitting on the outside patio overlooking the Brandywine River is a special treat!

I recently dined at La Sponda, an Italian restaurant that came highly recommended. While the bar and interiors were beautiful, and the staff was friendly and attentive, the food was a letdown. I ordered the eggplant rollatini, but it tasted like frozen mozzarella sticks with a ricotta filling that lacked any real flavor. The eggplant was soggy and the tomato sauce was soggy and unremarkable. It tasted like jarred sauce that could be found in a store. The cheese on top also was not appealing and at one point I moved it to the side as it added no taste to the dish. That being said, I do want to highlight that the complimentary bread and dip were decent. The overall experience was disappointing and not something I’d go back for. If you’re looking for a beautiful restaurant with friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere, La Sponda might be worth checking out. But if you’re in the mood for delicious Italian cuisine, I recommend looking elsewhere.

Update: After going a second time and having dinner I realized the food is over priced and bland. I went with the braised short ribs for $31, I expected more meat and more than 2 brussel sprouts. The only thing on the dish that was seasoned well was the polenta. Even the lemon cream cake was bland and barley tasted of lemon. I did have a whiskey sour and I thought that was very tasty. Our server seemed bored at best. So I’d say stick with the bar area, it’s more lively and better service.

We really like the atmosphere, food, and great service. The real bell ringer is that when you show up as a party of two on a Saturday night the staff seems to hustle and shuffle to find you a table. It is a great place for a drink as well. One big TV is more than enough at the bar. Just a fun place that I always seem to see the owners going out of their way to shine.

Let me tell you… this is one of the BEST restaurants I have EVER been to. Everything about our dinner was absolutely perfect. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we were treated like family. The food was absolutely delicious. One of the best steaks I have ever had! The ambiance and design of the restaurant was high-end rustic chic. Our waiter, Peter, was attentive, friendly, fun, and kind. He really made our experience even better. They even gave us free limoncello shots at the end of our meal! Thanks again to the whole staff for a great night! We will be returning!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience. Very possibly the best restaurant in the area. Outstanding food and service at surprisingly reasonable prices. Fresh and good quality ingredients, all lovingly prepared. Started with an excellent appetizer of grilled octopus followed up with a beautiful porcini encrusted steak and a super yummy seafood risotto full of shrimp and scallops with a side of delicious brocolli rabe Nice finish with Limoncellos, cappuccino and Creme Brulee.

This restaurant was a nice find in Downingtown. The food was delicious and we even got complimentary limoncello shots at the end. We came for an early dinner but it started to get pack as the night went on. I recommend putting in for a reservation. My favorite was their fish special for the night but we definitely do not have any complaints on any of the dishes we ordered! We will definitely come back. The outdoors area looked great but it was too chilly to sit outside for dinner.

Moved to the neighborhood recently and dined here once for lunch after a hectic move in day and then for dinner last night . Wasn’t disappointed at all. The food is delicious and loved their butternut squash agnolotti. The calamari we ordered for appetizers along with the bruschetta were both delicious. We also tried crème Brûlée for desert and loved it.Excellent service and they have a beautiful rustic interior . Highly recommend this place.
