This place is perfect. Don’t let the fact that it’s next to a 711 fool you. ..they are incredible. The variety of dishes Is uncanny because it’s more than most pricey Mexican restaurants. The friendliness and welcoming attitude of the staff puts them top of the food chain in hospitality. The place feels like home a dinner at home in Mexico. They surpass expectations on every level. The music is not obnoxious Banda or Reggaeton or even Vicente Fernandez but Beautiful instrumental mariachi, music to be proud of that speaks more to what Mexico is. The gas and the restaurant are free of weirdos loitering. The location is perfect too. It is unexpected to find this jewel in a gas station but it’s the best surprise ever. I had chilaquiles and huevos in salsa Verde. To die for! Abuelita has this place looking gorgeous. One can tell that lots f genuine love goes into this place. Abuelita takes care of the beautiful plants that make one feel just heavenly and peaceful. I should have bought dinner to go too but next time I’ll know to get a bit more for home. I’m craving them non stop. A complete delight

Don’t be shy that this restaurant is in the same building as a 7-11, sometimes you find great things where you least expect! Maybe the atmosphere is lacking, but fresh-made, well-seasoned food more than makes up for it. I must confess that I haven’t made it past their street tacos, but the rest of the menu looks amazing, and I did mention the tacos, right?!

This joint right here is a gem. I ordered a plate of carne asada chilaquiles with medium salsa verde and it was flavorful and delicious without a second thought. The rice and beans on the side were on par with the chilaquiles, and I just love the fact the salsa verde actually had some kick to it but the right amount where you can still taste the flavor. The eggs were runny like I asked, and the carne asada was well seasoned. And the horchata was amazing and didn’t lack flavor, sweetness, and was not watered down. The service was fast (due to the fact it was right before dinner time) and the restaurant was clean. I will be coming back here to try the rest of their food. If this is all grandma’s recipes, then she knows how to make a great meal

Finally some genuinely authentic Mexican food. The street tacos are good and what I’ve been looking for ever since I moved here but are just missing something. Some more flavorful meat, white onions instead of red, some chilles and pico on the side, option to get side of rice and beans?

In the top 5 breakfast burritos I’ve ever eaten! The egg, the rice and beans, the sauce, the grilled tortilla and the portion size!! Can’t say enough positive things about this place and their delicious food. Worth the price, I’d say.

Tucked beside a 7-eleven is La Cocina de la Abuela, an excellent restaurant for the traveler to stop and go, or sit and experience a window into culture.

Delicious food. I got Posole and my husband got the street tacos and they were both delicious. Doesn’t take long to get food either. They were all very nice.
