The food was excellent at Kyatchi. It’s just that I spent so many years in Japan, and the price I pay for the same type of food here seems so high. But that’s probably not fair at all to Kyatchi and other local Japanese restaurants so I kept five stars for this review.

If you’re looking for a Japanese restaurant in South Minneapolis, you might want to check out this place. While there’s no Japanese chef or server on-site, the restaurant offers a beautiful Japanese-themed décor and a menu of delicious Japanese cuisine that has earned it multiple awards, including Best Sushi Award by City Pages and by Mpls St. Paul Magazine. Interestingly, it has also won the award for Best Hot Dog by Star Tribune and People Magazine.

This is a business dinner. Very disappointed. The Raman is salty, and the service is terrible. Because the food is so salty, I would like to get more water. I never got my water refilled. Even trying to pay for my meal, I had to wait for more than 10 minutes . Myself Will not come back .

The dining area is small and cute, but very loud. Dinner for 2 of us came out to around $50/person. We got a drink each, shared a couple of appetizers and 2 sushi plates.

Kyatchi is a great, low key, sushi restaurant. They have simple, but high quality Maki, sashimi, and nigiri. Also on the menu are hotdogs, rice bowls, and appetizers. Service is friendly and generally quick. Don’t miss out on maki with shiso leaf.

So, I was craving some authentic Japanese food and after a quick Google search, I found Kyatchi. Now, needless to say, I know that truly authentic Japanese food is a rarity here in the U.S. All you really ever get is sushi and ramen! But, the menu seemed promising to me at the time.

Got some really sad looking fish on the chef’s nigiri. Super pale (hard to tell which is salmon and which is tuna) and the one piece I tasted was very blah. Used to love this place, but no dice today. Server didn’t even ask why we left the plate full.

It’s winter, and despite sitting in the table right in front of the door we were quite comfortable thanks to the curtain they have set up. Street parking wasn’t hard on this early Thursday dinner out with my 14yo who wanted ramen.
