It is that love that has inspired Kwei Fei, a restaurant concept from Chef David Schuttenberg featuring the foods of western China, and more specifically the province of Sichuan. This style of the Chinese cooking known for its vibrant, spicy, colorful, and piquant flavors.

THIS PLACE IS HEAVEN! We visited Kwei Fei for the first time a few days ago and we were blown away by how good this place was! This place serves up REAL Chinese food so much better than any other place even remotely in the area! If you’re wanting to try food that’s actually served in China, without visiting China, you should come here. I should know – I visited China for 3 weeks a few years back and this food is very similar to what I had over there. It was so wonderful to try real Chinese food again, and not the American Chinese food you find everywhere across the country.

One of top 3 favorite restaurants in Charleston, and I’ve lived here for over a decade! Always have a good time here and the food is unique and flavorful and always an experience. This is how food&bev should be—easygoing staff with delicious food. Shoutout to Peter and Karina behind the bar, and Libby also!

The food was amazing we came here for our wedding anniversary to try Kwei Fei’s Sichuan style cuisine and they did not disappoint! The server was nothing but amazing but because dining in during a hot summer month the heat was unbearable even indoors. The atmosphere was small and nice and I love the water drop decoration by the bar.

This place is freaking fantastic!! My tongue has had dreams about the tingling La Zi Ji since our first visit. In fact I had one last night about all the decadent flavors this place offers and I knew this morning I had to order delivery for lunch to enjoy from home. Worth every penny. This place has me in a choke hold. Dan Dan Mian, fire peanut-buttery noodles. Sweet water noodles, I don’t even know how to describe but crack. Mouth watering crack. Get an order of those for just yourself, trust me. Crescent dumplings? Also fire. Thank you guys for bringing this absolute beauty of a restaurant to the Island!!

I had a wonderful experience dining alone at Kwei Fei. The Sichuan dishes are creatively conceived, beautifully prepared and presented, and delicious. I rarely eat dessert, but I’m just gonna say that the vanilla ice cream with chili crisp and Sichuan peanuts is incredible. It’s a reason to live. My server was friendly and helpful and really added to an overall great evening out.

Had a quick super devious dinner at Kwei Fei. I was pleasantly surprised by the creative menu. We started with the special scallion oil cold noodles which were amazing. I had the tofu dish which was cooked to perfection and my husband said his beef dish was amazing. The veggie dumplings were perfect as well. I will definitely be returning to try the other dishes on the menu and to savor the unique ingredients/flavors that comprise each dish.

We love Kwei Fei! One of our go-to date night spots in Charleston, the food never disappoints. There are many vegan and gluten-free items and it’s all flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend if you like spicy flavorful food. Just a note that parking can be tricky, as Kwei Fei shares a lot with Pour House and there’s always a crowd.

Having just purchased a house in West Ashley, we were really happy to find Szechuan food so close to home. I’m a retired Chef and Szechuan food is one of my favorites to cook and I was happy to see the use of truly authentic Chinese ingredients like fermented chili paste, Szechuan peppercorns, fermented black beans. Ma La is alive and well at Kwei Fei!
