After nearly two decades of honing his skills in Japan and New York City, chef Atsushi “ATS” Kono presents the craft of Japanese yakitori at his namesake restaurant, KONO. KONO’s discreet locale within Chinatown’s Canal Arcade echoes the hidden streets and alleyways of Tokyo – inside, guests will be treated to a special evening of smoke and fire as they watch chef Kono prepare a multi-course, kappo-style yakitori omakase rooted in tradition and seasonality. Guests can expect to enjoy various cuts (and specialty cuts) of organic Amish chicken grilled over Binchotan hardwood charcoal.

Overall extraordinary experience, best yakitori meal I’ve had anywhere (including my many trips to Japan). Chef Kono delivers top notch authentic yakitori in a modern, chic environment. Premium prices for premium quality. Music may be a bit loud for conversation if you’re more than 2 diners. The service is excellent. Highly recommended. For first time visitors, go down the alley (arcade) next to Joe’s Shanghai from the Bowery.

From the moment we entered Kono via the hidden alleyway on Bowery, we were met with impeccable service, a cozy yet elegant ambiance, and some of the best yakitori we’ve had in NYC. Chef Kono is a master behind the marble-laden charcoal grill, and the 6-year-old tare mixture he uses adds a complex layer of flavor to all the different cuts and selections of the chicken yakitori. Kono also has an immense selection of Japanese Whisky, and their cocktails are spot on. Will definitely be coming back to experience the seasonal changes.

The best chicken, (mostly) on a stick a adventure I’ll ever go on. Super traditional Japanese atmosphere with WuTang and other hip hop accompaniments. This place has serious Michelin ambitions. Chicken amuses and apps, followed by a yakitori tasting highlighting a beak to tail ethos. You can also add on a few repeats or additions like a wagyu or mushroom skewer. Our savory round ended with a chicken/pork meatball burger and cold udon dish. A smoked crème brûlée dessert was a sublime finisher. Don’t forget the sake!!

Great food and chic ambience. Loved how it was calm and great to have a conversation over beautiful dishes. Portion for each dish is small but they add up and we couldn’t finish the last 3 dishes! You won’t walk out hungry for sure. Quintessential new york / LES highend dining.

This is an absolutely stunning restaurant and delivers an amazing experience. I almost felt like I was dining at an altar (or in the presence of a major EDM DJ!!).
