The restaurant is clean and pleasant on the inside – but I have to admit I wasn’t impressed with the Donburi bowls. They just tasted rather bland.. and for the price, I wasn’t impressed.

My friend and I were craving Japanese food and came across Kokolo Donburi while shopping in the area. The restaurant was very clean and the staff member taking orders was very nice! We ordered a bunch of food and didn’t have to wait long for our dishes to arrive.

Not a fan of this place. The service was great and the restaurant was nice and clean, it has a nice atmosphere. But, with that said the food itself wasn’t great in my opinion. Very bland tasting and it was not a good value for the money. I got the standard Katsu Don, which really is just fried chicken, eggs, onions, and a bed of rice. I paid $15 for this and really didn’t feel like I was getting that much especially since the majority of the bowl was rice. They have a signature sauce which unfortunately tasted very watered down and the friend chicken didn’t have too much flavor either. I ended up using some soy sauce to finish the food cause I couldn’t finish it with how bland it was. Shame, I was really looking forward to finding a new spot that I could frequent.

My first visit here. My greeted by Dominic, who is the owner. We ordered the fried calamari as the appetizer and my girlfriend had the chicken udon noodles and I had the Unagi, which is my favorite Japanese dish. We arrived at 6:30pm and was told that the chicken wing appetizer was sold out. Dominic went back to the kitchen and gave us a complimentary plate of wings. Major points for that. Then I tried my Unagi. It was the best Unagi dish I ever had. It was d”EEL”ishious!

We ordered the stir fry udon and wagyu beef sukiyaki don. For Walnut Creek it’s fine but probably only a 3 star if I had to compare it to eateries in Berkeley-Oakland.

Was just looking for some good food, very happy I found this place. We got the chicken Katsu curry and their signature wings. Wings were crispy with a honey/soy/seseme glaze. Everything was delicious.

Nice new spot in downtown Walnut Creek. The Jidori karaage was okay (plain but not bland). The curry wagyu beef donburi was a surprise (curry was mild but the beef was really tender). Big serving although it might look like it. My friend had the katsu curry donburi and it was a big serving, too. Price is about right.

I was a little hesitant about this place. I thought it was another restaurant calling itself japanese but failing miserably. But, the katsudon I ordered was done very well and correctly. Very tender Pork cutlet, the egg was cooked just right, and the sauce was very good. I am not disappointed and I will return.
