I’m Vietnamese American and I love to cook, so I know food, especially Vietnamese food. Khiem’s offers good home-cooked foods at prices that are hard to beat. The current cook (as of Sep 2007) took over the business just a few months ago, and works hard to make her dishes taste as home-made as possible. I just love her banh beo – a great snack food that’s hard to describe but is packed full of interesting textures and flavors – truly the best banh beo I’ve eaten anywhere in the USA. The pho noodle soup is also quite good, not as good as in NYC (where I grew up) or Viet Nam (where I was born) but very good (and dirt cheap at $5 a bowl) for the Midwest, far surpassing any pho I’ve eaten in Pittsburgh, PA and similar to (but cheaper than) the pho at #1 Pho on Superior Ave in Cleveland, considered by some (not me) to be the best pho in Cleveland. I find myself returning again and again to this place – I enjoy the food, love the prices, and really like conversing with the owner/cook. Every time I come here (once or twice each week ever since discovering it thanks to Karen Small [of Flying Fig fame]’s recommendation of it in the Plain Dealer), I’m reminded of my mother’s kitchen, warm and noisy and comforting. Enjoy!

Great food, but call before going. She sometimes isn’t there during business hours. Great pho and great bun.
