First of all I should have known when we pulled up at 3pm on Saturday and the place was completely empty. Since we had just got off the road from driving 7 hours we decided to give it a try anyway. We walked in and my first question was, are the Ribs freshly cook from today. The older light skinned lady assured me they were fresh. Well we get back to out hotel and those were possibly the worst ribs I’ve ever eaten. They were definitely old and extremely hard. I understand business is tough but if a customer first question is are the ribs fresh he is letting you know that is extremely important in his selection so if they are not simply say they are not. Then maybe I’ll chose a different meals and I won’t write about how nasty the food was. Especially with only an 87 health rating.

I walked in one day on my lunch break to order some food and there was a lady sitting behind the register eating her food. Okay, this isn’t the best of service, but whatever. BUT THEN, she looks me in the eyes and licks on here fingers, one by one and finally ask me if I need help or if i was ready to order. This is one of the most disgusting things I’ve seen when it comes to service. I did not order the food and said no thank you, have a good day.

This was my first time visiting K & J rib shack (Perry Hill Rd) and possibly my last. If I do decide to go back it may be to give the desserts a try because I live close by. My macaroni and cheese was very bland and tasted like only noodles (no seasoning). Also, It did not have enough cheese on it for me. The fried corn tasted like cream corn out of the can. The potato salad was fine (not the best but I ate a good portion of it with one of the ribs). The ribs were a little tough and it tasted like there was too much liquid smoke or something similar on them. I usually don’t write reviews, but this food was so bad I wish I could get my money back! Furthermore, it wasn’t cheap.. If it were, I probably would have just let it go.

The ribs were not well seasoned yet they were smoked beautifully. I did not like the bbq sauce AT ALL!! The BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup and left much to be desired. The portions were substantial but overall the ribs were mediocre. The restaurant does not have a visible open sign from the highway but the ladies stated they are open everyday except Sunday 10:30-6:30. The customer service was really good but the foods not sow much. It wasn’t nasty it just wasn’t seasoned to my liking.

Used to love this place, the quality was amazing…then the quality went waaaay down the tubes.. then when I’d order they were always out of whatever I was ordering…the last time I went one of the employees saw my dog in the car and began a conversation, he was telling me how he fights dogs, went to jail for fighting dogs, can make 30 grand off a dog fight, then he was compelled to informed me that his old dog would have ripped my dogs ears of 1st then her tail then would gouge her eyes out & rip her throat out. Excellent service and very good food. Ample portions. Ribs were some of the best restaurant style we have had. Good sides including the beans and the Mac ‘n Cheese. Looks a bit concerning outside and in, but they put their money in the food and not the building.

Wow! We had pork ribs, chicken, and brisket with potato salad [mayo based], black eye peas [amazing flavor] , and mac & cheese. The bbq sauce is made here.. its sweet and tangy!! Peach cobbler is solid – great balance of spices peaches and pasty. Prices are reasonable. Portions are generous. Definitely worth the time and money!
